I expected worse comments than I got to be honest - I always do when I paint something because I'm a real amatuer! But, very pleased with the responses.

Hi Timm - I understand your expectations....my mum learned me a valueable lesson : "If you don't have anything positive to say, stay quiet" - that's why I didn't respond :-) I would have had the job done by a pro. - remember, it's a BMW, not a LADA :-) Have a great day - and thanks for all your videos BR Brian

Lighter coats, spraying from a bigger distance gives more "factory" looking results with "cans" , speaking from my own experiance, but non the less, miles better than before thumbs up for the effort to show as much as possible, your videos are really cheering up for a car enthusiast as me and diy-er

How long should you leave between coats?
@KostadinDelizhanski9 ай бұрын
@@jp3630 it depends on the temperature if it's warm and above. 25° maybe 10 minutes but if it's under 15° c maybe up to 20-30 minutes or more. That's why the video above Tim uses hair dryer to for dry the paint and the lacquer

Hi Tim, great information as usual. I had a similar issue with the cover on one of my side mirrors. It had a nasty gouge from an impact from the previous owner. I searched E-bay and found a used side mirror in the exact color of my vehicle 08 BMW 550i artic white. $65 US I popped the back cover only off and replaced my damaged cover with the used one. Looks fantastic and it's got original factory paint :) Just an idea. Keep up the great videos. I really enjoy them. Cheers

Good plan - but I'm not going to find a barberott one over here!

Thanks again Tim, watching you videos always gives me a bit more confidence to tackle jobs that the stealership would charge an absolute fortune for.

Thanks, it was good fun and I'd do it again!

Hi Tim. It looks like you may have fallen foul of the fake commenters, or failing that, some of your old show-business fan club are surfacing! Anyhow, even if you were a professional paint sprayer you will still get comments from people who have never handled a spraygun in their life telling you you are doing it wrong. It's a shame we don't live nearer, it would be an honour for me to help you out with all your paint and bodywork issues. The main thing about doing the painting bits yourself is that they look better than before you started. I see some "professional" jobs that friends pay to have done and they are way off what I would call acceptable. At least you're in southern England. You wouldn't get away with attempting that job outside up here, you would either be rained off, blown away, snowed in or frozen solid, and that's just in the summer!

Don't panic Bob, I removed them from the channel! And yes I agree - better than it was = win!
@bobfrankish88839 ай бұрын
@@TimmsBMWRepairsandInformation I do panic easily nowadays Tim, but thankfully not over things like that! It's happening on many people's channels at the moment, it's a shame some people have nothing better to do,

Going to have to bid you adieu Tim albeit reluctantly. You see, my beloved E64 was destroyed by some fallen roof tiles. I now have an f12 convertible that I'm in the process of loving

Sorry to hear that Fred, but I hope to be in one soon!

would it not be better to use a fillier primer first instead of the colour - then give it a light sand and then apply the colour
@TimmsBMWRepairsandInformation9 ай бұрын
Yes, but I had a couple of hours to do the job before a week (so far) of rain - I'm pleased!

You can't feather peeled clearcoat without removing the base thats adjacent to it as the clear is much much harder than the clear.
@TimmsBMWRepairsandInformation9 ай бұрын
Yes, that would explain what I found - I got right through the base-coat before the clear-coat even flinched!

Another great video. Yes, you could have gave it a better finish with more time and effort but you're on my level with they kind of jobs, a complete amateur, and as you said in the video, you were looking to do a quick repair. I thought it looked very good considering how quickly you done it. 👍👍👍
