Thanks a lot for the awesome video again, I like to take a look at a video before doing something, that prevents some stupid mistakes. ;) I filled in some Ravenol RUP 5w40 since my 130i gets some track use on the Nordschleife an the Bilster Berg this year. I will keep an interval of 10k / 1 year just to be safe. The Ravenol RUP does not have a high TBN value but nice heat behavior, so changing early is a reasonable thing. Keep up the great vids!

Thanks for checking out the video man, I imagine taking one of these around the Nordschleife would be a lot of fun! 👍

Penrite HPR5W40+10 (meets 5w30 and LL01 spec) is your friend, used to run castrol but for last 150,000km have run it in 2 N52s. Works out cheaper, comes in packs that suit 6.5l sump, and also strangely noticed oil lower consumption, and is arguably even better spec A3/B4. You can code the service intervals to be whatever you want, mines set to every 7000km/12 month - But I beat on it ;)

I’ve always ran Castrol 5W30 in my M54’s, although I did use Penrite HPR5W40 in my X5 last time I did an oil change, only because 7 litres was half the price of 5 litres of Castrol at the time! (on sale) It seems like good oil, I’m impressed with the Penrite 👍

Because of the warm southern California climate I always use 5w-40. Looked at my cams and they look brand new.

@@MTechGuy Winter and summer ranges from 42F (5C) to 98F (36) ussually for LA. San Bernardino county can get colder in the high forest areas in winter around 14F (-10C) and high desert summer are like 118F (47C) lol So if the owners manual approved, I’d even go with 5w-50. But 5w-40 is the most viscous approved oil that I use.

@@Garik.e60 47C!!! 🥵 I start complaining here when it gets to 32C in the summer time lol. My M5 takes forever to warm up in the winter here (10W60)

@@MTechGuy Same here I let it idle for 15-20 minutes. 10W-60 Pennzoil Racing. Luckily I don't live in the high desert so my summers and winters are a really mild.

@@MTechGuy Just to clear it up, if you live in a hotter climate it's better to use thicker oil and if you live in colder climate it's better to use thinner oil? Have I got that right? Obviously within the range what the manufacturer recommends. Just trying to figure out what I should go with for here in Melbourne as summer is just about to roll out and winters can get pretty cold here

I’ve never seen a 130i so clean.. with a 0° degree outside, 5w40 oil and an engine that runs on ethanol, my engine doesn’t start as easy as yours ahah (it starts in less than quarter of a second when he’s hot.

For sure, just drop it back down on its wheels on level ground before checking the level and topping it off (like after refilling it with 6 litres of new oil like I did in the video, before topping it off)

Where did you get the Mann filter in NZ? in the past I've used the Ryco filters from supercheep and repco.

Bought it from Pelican Parts mail order from North America $13 vs $65 for a Ryco one from repco 🙃

@@MTechGuy thanks mate. Exactly $65 is a ripp off. Haven’t checked myself but have been told the OEM ones from the dealer is still cheaper than the ryco ones. That’s a clean 130 you got there I had one until February they great cars.

Bought it from a BMW parts supply in North America- mail order. You should be able to get a genuine one from the dealer, or Ryco might do a cheaper one that fits in NZ?
