Dear expert, I have a BMW 320D 2010 model whose battery is dead. If i go to BMW Service center, they say yours is a 10 yr old car and the 90ah battery you have is discontinued and hence a newer version of 92ah will need to be installed for 700USD. If i ask a local repair shop, they say they can install an exide or amaron 100ah battery for 200USD. I dont think a slightly bigger size battery can damage anything as the current drawn will decided by the load connected. Still, any such experience ? Can I save some money by doing a local repair with higher sized battery?

Hi . You can install a 100ah battery without any concerns. But don’t forget to code the new battery. In the software for coding , you can choose what amperage is the new battery. And I’m sure 100ah is also a option there . BMW service always want to extra charge , because they are BMW 😂

In addition to ​@Tutoriale AUTO HD The battery coding goes from 90Ah to 105Ah, I believe you chose the lower value. So 100Ah will need to be on the 90Ah code (which sounds like it already is). You do however need to code the battery change in, otherwise the IBS will think the battery is still 10 years old and over charge it... reducing the life of your new battery. Should be able to do this through the cody app or if you have the software & cable I believe you can use INPA

OK so without additional equipment for coding, one cannot do the battery replacement alone at home to save money? (it might be a stupid question but i am no expert: if I buy a replacement with the same ah rating, is there still need to mess with coding?). thanks

@@MrBulletpoint yes . You still need to code the new battery . The alternator still thinks it’s an old battery installed and it will overcharge the new one . You will kill the new battery faster .

Pro tip. To prevent battery from needing to code. Remove old one and wait at least 10min before adding new battery in.
