Common cause for no oil pressure in BMW n51 n52 3.0 engines is bits of serpentine belt getting pulled into the crankcase and sucked into the oil pickup tube. Requires dropping the subframe and oil pan to clean out.

Hello! I have 2008 x5 3.0si and my car has p0012 code. When I changed oil, I saw the some rubber thing which was similar as this video. When I start my car at the morning I saw the low pressure warning sign too. My question is if my car is also same problem with it, what should i do? Clean the this hose and replace the belt? And then how do I contact with this pick up tube? Where is the location?

The oil pickup tube is inside the oil pan. You will need to Google search directions on how to remove the oil pan.

Did you replace your oil pump after this? I suspect my n54 ate some belt ( belt went but front seal looked fine upon inspection but a few months later started getting low pressure warning) and am wondering if I should replace the pump while I’m in there.

I did not replace the pump. (Sorry for the late response!) From what I read, it is tough enough to handle the mess, so I just cleaned it out and put it back together. It's been several thousand miles ago now!

@@Cruz.n Probably slipped off of the harmonic balancer and pushed through the front crank seal because it was oily

How did u test for oil pressure? My n52 has loud ticking ontop also and had ALOT of metal shaving in oil and in the vanos filters. I was thinking maybe it was the vanos since ista threw vanos codes

I have the same problem, but i change vanos cam phase and vanos solenoids, and camshaft o rings and nothings change. This car is nightmare. Did you fix you car?

Did you changed the oil Pump becouse, it was also damaged

Yes. You should definitely change the oil pump when this happens.

Does the front main seal also damaged? I suppose it went in there is it?

I’m confused. Somebody pls explain how the serpentine belt got mixed up in the oil. Isn’t it external??

Yeah, crazy, right?? What happens is that the serpentine belt usually starts slipping because of a leak in the oil filter housing up top. Because the belt is oily, it doesn't squeak like normal so it goes unnoticed. As the belt slips, it begins to deteriorate and eventually comes apart. As it comes apart, the internal strings begin to wrap around and behind the harmonic balancer which is turning on the main crankshaft. As these pieces wrap more and more between the harmonic balancer and the block, serious pressure begins to build, eventually forcing the serpentine belt pieces through the main seal and into the crankcase. Pretty much a nightmare.

Yep. Lots of valve clatter because there was no oil in the valve lifters. Once I cleaned this out, it sounded great again. Don't drive your car at all until you get this fixed!

Yes, definitely. Suggest you stop running your car until you know what the problem is. This issue causes very low oil pressure which makes it impossible to set proper timing. Improper timing causes very rough idle. Please check into this before you possibly cause damage to your camshafts. Could be something else causing the rough idle, but you should make sure you don't have low oil pressure before driving it anymore.

Be sure you have no oil leaking from the oil filter housing up top. Once oil starts leaking, it begins dripping on the serpentine belt, which will then eventually slip off the pulleys. When the belt slips off the pulleys, it gets chewed up and sucked into the crankcase through the main shaft seal. These pieces of belt are what clog the oil pickup tube and starve the engine for oil, resulting in engine damage.

So riddle me this batman how the hell does a serpentine belt that's on the outside of the engine end up inside the oil pan? And then getting sucked up into the oil pump pick up ?? It can't happen!

Unfortunately, it very much does happen. Even more frightening is that this is somewhat common on these engines. If your oil filter housing starts leaking a bit, it makes it's way to the belt. At that point the belt begins to slip and break down, eventually coming apart and wrapping strands of itself behind the harmonic balancer. As these windings get tighter, enough pressure builds to force the lower windings through the main shaft seal and bearing and into the crankcase. Once in the crankcase, it's a very simple trip from there into the pick up tube where it quickly clogs up and stops the oil flow into the rest of the engine. Kapow.

When the serpintine belt breaks, the oreintation and geometry of the pulleys allow for it to be wedged behind the crank pulley. Once part of the steel reinforement gets wrapped around the spinning shaft, it will continue to spin and like a string on a dowel, wedge through the front seal easily. Think of a corkscrew type action. I didnt believe it when i first heard of this but its true and its common. If you have unsolvable vanos, timing codes, drop the oil level sensor and put a camera scope into the oil pan. Look back towards the drain plug(lowest pan point) you will see rubber bits and serpentine belt pieces.
