Great idea! will see how it works with a regular 225/45R17! . My only issue is that I just can't believe the non-stop cost-reduction stupidity behind car manufacturers... Just to mention a few: No more spare tire, replaced with RFTs; no more oil dipstick, replaced with a sensor; no more climate control buttons, replaced with a multifunction tactil panel that works like sh1t, no more engines, gear boxes, cooling circuits and fuel systems, replaced by a pack of batteries and a motor, that have no soul etc, etc... :/ And on top of that, they charge higher prices than ever!

nice video. I have a 2012 E92, recently after needing to be towed home, I purchased a spare wheel exactly as shown in your video plus a jack, jack pad adapters, miniature air compressor, 17mm lug wrench and for good measure some hi vis vests. Not trying to be stuck ever again in the dark.

I've had a few flat tyres over about 30 years of driving, but I've only ever had one blow out.... and that was Continental Sport Contact 5 runflats. The blowout was only at low speed and the car was quite controllable and OK to drive afterwards, despite a 3 inch long tear in the sidewall. But I can't help wondering if my one and only ever blowout and it being a runflat are related.

We have an M3 which we bought a normal size wheel as a spare.This goes in the boot on top,nothing much else goes in there apart from weekly shop so no problem.We also have the 330 Ci Clubsport which now also had a normal wheel.This however will go in the boot at the bottom.This all means not driving on DANGEROUS narrow wheels,no filling with gunk to find your pump does not work.Sadly if the tyre gets shredded you cannot blow it back up. We keep being told that speed kills,what about that narrow, get you home if you are lucky, wheel. Think we are being had by the car makers and the Governments.

+syd bell well I think if you drive with low speeds and be carefull it s gonna be ok .. they are not intended for long milage and as I sad not higher than 80 km/h even though I say not higher than 50 km/h to be on the safe side

syd bell I admit that I have never used it more than once and on a summer day ... I do think that you have a certain point there and as I said we all have to be very carefull when using them ! :)

This is a very clever solution, but you only show it in concept. To make this practical for us, it would be very useful if you supplied a parts list. I'd have no idea where to buy those hooks, for example, or how you achieved the lower attachments for the belts. Also, the specs for the spare tire and / or what you purchased and where ... Thank you for considering.

hi, do you remember what is the length of the cord? I went to the store and there are multiple lengths 5m, 6m and so on.. I don't want to buy one that is too short or too long 😅

Hi , hmm I didn t pay too much attention when I bought it but I do know that mine was too long And after I put it all together I’ve cut the excess off and that’s that :) anyway 6 m will be more than sufficent .. do tell us afterwards what was the perfect dimmension ;)

Old question but somebody might find it useful. These narrow spare ties should be inflated to around 4 bars. 2.6 is not nearly enough!

The car is designed to run with special runflat tyres and it should be kept that way. Runflat tyres should be good enough in most of the tyre puncture scenarios.

Runflat.. still the biggest shit u can buy... They are expensive, the characteristics are not so good, theyre loud, heavy and at least its not so easy to remove the tires from the rims

And what's the solution to a flat run flat at 8PM on a Sunday night when you're 100 miles from home and you have to be at work on Monday morning? Spend the night in a motel ($$) and take a vacation day on Monday so you can drive around hoping you'll find a tire store that has an exact replacement for your run flat, providing all that driving doesn't exceed the 50 mile limit of your run flat. Run flats suck.

Haha, that's peanuts! I had to spend 330 € for ONE rear tyre (255/35/20 P-Zero Runflat). But I would pay any price for the safety and convenience of runflats!!!

I don't like the safety aspect of any solution I've seen. In an accident, any tire in the trunk would be pushed through the flimsy back seat into the passenger compartment. No bueno.
@DrMeize
@DrMeize 6 жыл бұрын
I guess you never seen what is behind the rear bench ... it is solid metal bars ... i don t know what you call flimsy but in my car that is nit the case ;)

@ tom : I don't have the spit and recline option of the backseat and behind it it is a big metal structure from one side to another. I think it may differ between the years they are made o smth like that ! If you have splited seats , I don't recomend it neither ;)

I wish mine had some steel between. I still like your implementation. It's tucked up so tight and is sitting at an angle so it's pretty much out of the crumple zone.
