BMW e92 M3 Brake Vacuum pump replacement guide

In this video you join me replacing the brake vacuum pump on my e92 M3, sadly this doesn't resolve my issue but I have another thing to try regarding the secondary air pump!

So thoughtful of you to make a video anyway. Have you considered that item mounted to the inner guard in the engine bay on the passenger side ? It is some actuator to open/close the flow of coolant to the water/oil heat exchanger that's mounted on the DCT box. I hear that thing for about 10 seconds whirring at a cold start. Not happening on starts with residual heat.

Hopefully it helps someone else, as I already had the cameras out it made sense to keep rolling 👍 The noise runs for over 2 minutes, it’s pretty loud in person so almost certain (famous last words) it’s the secondary air pump now

Did you ever figure out what the issue was? I’m getting limp mode and code 27E4 and already tried swapping the sensor. I read online that a blown fuse #67 could also cause the issue but mine was fine. Great vid btw 👍🏽

The noisy pump/ fan still continues.. it’s on the to do list 😅 Mine doesn’t list any fault codes or cause any sort of limp mode literally just the noise - I plan to resolve it for 2023 😅

Still living with my hoover on start up 😅 next month the e46 is back on the road so I will take it all apart again to hopefully investigate/ resolve the issue 👍

Piersburg makes an OE Secondary Air Pump for $200, half the price of the BMW OEM. At the back of the plenum is a hose, that if not connected well, will make a whine. But you would hear it while driving. The ICV swap might have caused the whine, if it wasn't done correctly. Some early E9X M3s have an Auxiliary Electric Water Pump that is in front of the driver in the engine bay. You would get a code if it failed. It was removed on later M3 model years. It warms the cabin with the engine off. Ex. You pump gas, while your family is in the car on a very cold day/night while this pump warms the cabin.

Thanks for the info 👍 Mines a 2011 one so not an early one, I was watching an e46 one and the pipe work had failed making the same noise so “I think” I may have worked out what’s happened potentially, wish me luck 😅
