My boot recently had water leaks after lots of rain. Here's how i fixed it. I didn't show it in the video, but once you have done this, it's best to dry the battery compartment out with a hairdryer, to try and save your battery if it's not too late.

Thanks this video helps my issue, I've been trying to find where the water is getting in. My BMW E93 Convertible, has the same issue but much worse, if you don't empty the water, it leaks inside the car, despite two summers the water remained under the carpet and didn't dry out. My only option was to remove the saturated back seat and take it indoors, replace the entire interior carpet. Vacuum out the water and leave the car to dry for one entire summer. The leather interior got mould every where, had to get the seats recoated and two years later the car still remains under a cover and still isn't back on the road due to electrical issues. Now I got a low millage immaculate 330i drop top garden ornament! lol 1

@@abdullahcheema7061 Hey. Yeah I solved my issue! Open your trunk, vacuum the water channel, lift up on all the rubber seals gently and use a toothbrush to remove more hidden debris out of there, spray it all down with isopropyl alcohol, dry it up with a microfiber, then use any ceramic coating on the entire water channel in the trunk. I used "Turtle Wax Hybrid Solutions Ceramic Spray Coating 16 FL Oz". Then finish it all off by applying Gummi-Pflege on the rubber seal. I haven't seen any water over that battery tray for over 2 years now even with my car parked outside of the garage during a rain storm.

I saw my ex mechanic something opened on the left side a year ago(same car)and thank god 10l came out slowly. ..today I heard something strange on the right side (back window closed and some water was heard)and I looked and found only on the left side..that black cap...but on the right i had to snap like a cm and just a little bit touch it with the screwtool and it came all out also like 8 l...so I fixed it without some special time or tools and even in the dark...i didn't dirt myselft.and the black tap is likely untouched...even if it can be pull out with pulling out with force after 180°it is not neccesarly.Just move it a little bit till the water finds it's way out.maybe I had to wait 20seconds more..but now is much better.Before it was a wet sauna feeling all the time...and windows also...nightmare..also for health.:)

The reason it takes so long to drain, is it fills that side pocket up with water, the down side to this is, the window regulator and window regulator motor sit in the water once it gets so high. and once you have drained this, it tends to wreck the regulator motor, as ive just found out. just striped the motor down and cleaned it all up as the internals were caked in crud and water.

Thanks alot for this pal. Mine was on the other side. Worth noting that on the passenger side there seems to be a 3rd fixing in the plastic as mine wouldn't come all the way off, however I managed to pry the plug out and my God, maybe 10L came gushing out all over me. If you can get the plastic all the way off then you can undo the drain plug properly (I couldn't) which looks to be a very large hex/Allen key, maybe 13mm. I've pried mine out with two screwdrivers and destroyed it, but for what it's worth I'll probably order a new one from BMW.

See my comment up above: There are also 3 rivets (Part No. 51 16 1 881 149) that hold each trim piece on. Basically you have to push the center pin all the way through the rivet (1/2" or so). I used a metal pick but something less sharp would be better. It's very easy to lose this center pin so i recommend buying new rivets (~$0.40 each, 6 total) before you do this job. Also, the drain plug is 14mm. When you go to loosen it, do it by hand. You only need to rotate it an ~1/8 of a turn until it stops. DO NOT ROTATE MORE as all you need to do is align the pins and pull down. It does not screw out.
@Basaljet
@Basaljet 3 жыл бұрын
Just done my 08 model just the same. I really can’t see the point of having the bung? The lowest 1/2” has no escape holes the lower plastic flap would prevent stuff going up. I realise now this is what destroyed the window mechanism. The lower part of the mechanism must be permanently submerged in water. The cable corrodes and gives way as it runs around the lower pulley.
