BMW/EWS KEY INCORRECT RANDOM CODE LOST: DIAG & FIX & HOW TO RESTORE KEYS!!!

In this video I show how this 2007 BMW X3 got towed back into the shop a week after making a new key for it with the same trouble code and no crank situation. This is related to the EWS system and what kept causing the key rolling code to get lost in the EWS module. I show also how you can rectify the issue and restore the rolling code for the keys to be relearned in the EWS

Hey D-tech That's a very informative video for me. I have a 2004 X3 E83 M57TU 30d with the EWS system so that is going to help me in the future. Iv had the AK90 bookmarked on Amazon as a purchase for a while, but don't need it just yet. But your video is really going to help when the time comes. BTW. To keep Mrs D-tech happy, every morning when you wake up just shout "Rev your engines" that should keep do the trick 😂 thanks D-tech

Yeah, no.. this is how I bricked my e83. Spend the $60 for a plastic key from the dealer. Then move the chip into the fake key and you're done! Enough with all this AK90 crap!

Superb job, Sadel! I can appreciate that you continued to look further after seeing the drain caused by the USB charger. I think many others would have called it “fixed!” and attributed the extra 10 milliamps as “it’s just due to its age” (which would have been an incorrect assumption). I am surprised that the EWS didn’t throw a low voltage code as a DTC, though. Maybe it doesn’t have that type of communication ability? PS- I see your daughter is no different than when I was her age, bringing the car back home with barely any gas in the tank. Hehehehehe. EDIT- I posted the above comment before I watched the final 10 minutes and did see the EWS voltage code appeared. 👍🏼

Also, I want to add that you removed all the electrical issues with the vehicle and then tried to do the test. So that’s why I believe you got different results.

Great video .. I followed along and understand what you explained .. You saved me a Lot of time .. my problem was similiar with a rolling code fault but differnt with the dme wire blocked .. I have an AK90 without the adapter for the 4.3ews but I will probabaly solder it .. I feel this will correct my problem .. I think mine is voltage related also but self induced by draining the battery working on the car and popping the battery in and out!! Thanks again! {: mike

Nice video. I programmed an identical key for my E46 2 weeks ago. The key interferes with my bluetooth adapter that was just to the left of the radio and i decided to replace the oem radio with an android one. During the procedure my battery drained because stupid me worked with the interior lights on. Had to recharge the battery and everything worked ok for another week. Today, after driving 250 kms, the key didn't start the car. Fortunately i had my wallet key with me (glad i saw your video 2 weeks ago and decided to be cautious). So, my question is, did the problems get solved definitely with that car/key? I can remove the ews and force the key to sync again like you did, bit i am afraid the problem will appear again. I do not notice any battery problems after recharging but i didn't measure the voltage. Thank you.

For me on this particular situation, the keys have been fine ever since this video and finding out that there was a battery drain causing the issues. So, yes all good so far, definitely this was my issue.

@@DTEAuto Thank you! I will assume that my problems were also caused by the drained battery. I am away from home right now but I will try to resync my key with the EWS. However, instead of setting the key to "Not Used" and write to the EWS I will try an alternative that I saw on another video (kzbin.info/www/bejne/nJyUqmCPZrxojpIsi=jFgI22TRQQeOItQY). Apparently, you can read the EWS (which will contain the rolling code for each key) and write the key again. As long as it is the same VIN, fixed code and key number, the AK90 will update the rolling code. I will see if this approach works. It would spare the write to EWS operation. I will let you know if it worked. Thanks once more!

@@DTEAuto I can confirm that out of sync keys can be synced by reading EWS (to get the current rolling codes of each key) and writing key using same slot number. No need to set the key to not used and write back to EWS. It is much safer this way since no writing to EWS is performed, only to the out of sync key. I was afraid that the write operation would fail but it works! Thanks again and perhaps you can make a new video or add some text to explain alternative method.

Surely after you used the key in the key slot, if you re read the ews data the tick would of been written back to the ews data. This would prove the key couldnt recode its self after ews manipulation and low voltage?

Yes to find out for sure the only deciding factor would have been to remove the ews and re-read the eeprom info and perform the analyze function
