BMW F10 Audio Upgrade | JL Audio 600/6 Amp, Technic Harness | Part 3

Hey guys, I finally solved this issue last sunday. Look for a thin green/brown wire (12V) (Switched on & off with the ignition) where the factory amp is located. It a thin green & brown wire that runs from the adaptive sound box. This is the wire to tap for you amp remote on & off switch. It worked great for me.

Pro tip: Measure and copy the shape of the factory amplifier onto 1/8 inch sentra or plastic and mount the amplifier on it out of the vehicle . You can neatly pre-wire amp with wires going through drilled holes in plastic . That way you can set all your switches before the amp is permanently mounted it will help with your back as well.

If you still wonder, and I got you correctly regarding the installation of additional subwoofers, you can wire them directly to your amp and configure the channel for low freq and you’re good to go :) hope it helps !

Excellent video. I know it's been almost a year but in my BMW 330i I took signal from the 2 rear speakers and installed a compact subwoofer. I didn't need a signal wire as the sub powered up when it received audio input. The difference in the overall sound was dramatic. Cost me about £80 and everyone that heard it was impressed. I think most BMW audio systems sound good they just need a boost to the lower end.

The Ebay harness looks like its solid copper which makes it stiffer. The Technic Harness is braided strands of copper which makes it more flexible. Also the twisting on the Ebay harness adds strength and helps prevent crosstalk.

BTW, Tanks to Bearded for this video, it helped me a lot. I was able to buy the harness and do the install which was fairly simple, but for me the remote wire just did not work. After searching around I found it. It the thin green/brown wire running alongside the factory amp to the rear view camera box. It worked great, so use it all.

How are you getting channels 5&6 working if you have no inputs connected(RCA's). It seems the harness only give you 4 RCAa.

Did you connect your Remote line of the harness to a switched power supply? Unless it's already done in the harness the amp is going to be on all the time and draining your car battery. You can use that 12V plug outlet on the back of the trunk. Great video by the way!

I have bmw 5 series F10, I want to upgrade my oem amp to JL Audio amplifier, do I have to take original one out and connect the harness and plug the new one in or the oem amp needs to be in there because it sends signal to the radio and JL amp work with the oem amp... please help thanks

Hey. I am doing a similar upgrade with a JBL DSP 4086. The only issue is that my F10 2014 has the base stereo and hence there is no amp in the boot. So I am running cables to complete my setup. I wanted to know if anyone knows the subwoofer polarity? In the base stereo setup, the sub and door mid-range are connected in parallel. I order not to cut into any of the original wires, I am making my own pins for the wire termination and doing a complete plug and play system.

is that the professional hi-fi system? Because that's what I had. Just pull the liner away from the rear of your trunk where your amp is and see if it's the same harness as I used

If the subs are distorting you probably need to adjust the amp not head unit. If your gain is too high is going to distort. Honestly, the top hifi BMW speakers are probably just as good or better than Alpine type s

Did you ever figure this out please? I believe the HK system has a fibre optic connection to the amp which should make it easier, provided you get an amp with enough channels.

I think that more channels = more control over the speakers. The factory amplifier is multi channel as it is. Also remember that even though everyone calls them subwoofers, They are not. You have to look at them as super woofers. While they can dig deep, their design including the enclosure was designed to reproduce a strong mid bass punch which can make 80's music sound amazing, but if you are listening to music like what you are using in this video.... then you are going to need proper subwoofers... Hope this helps.

Great video! I noticed you had speakers wires in the subwoofer outputs on the JL but there were no sub RCA inputs, did you have to split the RCA’s? I’m just confused as to how you got signal to the subs. Thanks!

It takes front or rear channel input and uses that

Modern JL audio amplifiers have balance differential inputs which means you can take the speaker leads from stock stereo soder them into an RCA cables and plug that directly in to the amplifier input. The amplifiers input gain ( I recommend the SMD DD-1)still needs to be matched correctly with the output of head unit so there is not distortion.

i think thats why he said the bass distorts. he needs to wire the subs into it.i looked at the technics harness on ebay. there is no sub wires(rcas) for it doesnt look like. just skip the tweeters use the alpine 2 way in door and jl mids in rear door. thats plenty loud for the 4 door speakers, then the 5/6 channels to the underseat subs and ur done. at least thats what im gonna do. theres plenty of power(highs) to not miss a thing with 4 speakers in the doors(minus corner door tweets and mid on dash.) he even said its too loud he had to turn gains wayy down so plenty power to spare for subs on 5/6.. thats un necessary if u have all ur stuff set up rt. but i just dont think u can use subs on the amp with the technics. we need something with the sub rcas.

@@beardedreviews you can get some coilovers and put them on the softest settings and upgrade front and rear struts that works if you do get the coilovers it will still be more solid but well worth it

The old school jams work better for these cars like a 600-watt legacy the 600 watt Sony explode or 1000 watt crunch amp for these door speakers it's because it's because I'm a so good so Mercedes-Benz and BMW get one of those old nice amps for I tell you know that watch the difference you would think they would think you're in a competition and you have found just for all the speakers in the car they sound so good on those kind of amps

Great series. Did your stock audio include the harman kardon system? I've read that you can't upgrade the amp without some big level of engineering:) . I've already upgraded the speakers/subs with BavSound and have been happy but more power. - 2015 BMW 528
