BMW F20/F30 M Performance Brembo big brake upgrade HOW TO + CODING

Today we upgrade the brakes to M Performance 370mm 4 pot, 345mm 2 pot Brembos from 430d. It's a simple bolt on job if you have all the parts, once done needs to be coded in E-Sys or your pedal will be mushy and go all the way to the floor.

@@marksargent2908 To be honest they were to big for my car as it was, if I was to do it again would just go for biggest floating caliper setup, on the other hand I'm doing an N55 swap now so they will be put to good use. Main thing I've noticed is heat resistance, with smaller brakes they would start to fade after harder braking few times. Also they seem to do a lot better on 150+ km/h, much more confidence inspiring.

Hi, With the coding you did, was the idea to setup the S2NHA on you car? because saw that is done when people go for BBK, which are 370mm front. I just bought them from a m235 for a f20 lci, just wanted to make sure I will code it correctly.

Honestly didn't do that much research on 340mm fronts since I went for 370mm, but as far as I can tell everyone uses S2NH when they upgrade to 4pot/2pot setup, no matter the size. I will be checking this out once I complete the swap since im changing all the ECUs, not just DME M135i

So, just confirming, you upgraded from standard non-m-sport braking system (floating) to the m-sport performance fixed brembo style? No change in brake fluid lines, just recoded for the abs system to properly manage the bigger brakes etc? Oh, and the bigger wheels ;-) Wouldve been an even better video if you didn't speed up what was done in the front. I have a 2013 F30 320D here in Australia with the same standard braking system. I do have the m-sport package, so has 19inch wheels. What's the minimum size needed for the calipers to clear? Thanks.

Hi, this is correct, brakes are straight fit, no need for mounts, brake lines or anything like that. Only 2 things you need to watch out for is the rear parking brake shoe size and front calliper since there are 2. If you use bigger front calliper you need 370mm discs and minimum 18" wheels. Problem is that not every wheel will clear it, but most OEM should. If you have 19" there should be no problems. If you go for smaller front with 340mm discs you can even fit some 17" and all OEM 18" should clear.

You won't get a check light, but it's practically undrivable, pedal goes all the way to the floor like when brakes aren't bled

Do you tighten your lugs firm, with either a breaker bar, or impact wrench, then lower fully to the ground to torque or just so they're touching the ground, but not a lot of weight on them? I'm reading conflicting info elsewhere. Thanks.

Brakes and everything in the air, only suspension bushings on the ground to eliminate pretention EDIT: if you are thinking of wheel lugs, I do them in the air with impact gun on a bit lower setting and then tighten them to spec with torque wrench once the car is on the ground.

Probably, don't really know how it works, what I do know is that without it pedal travel is longer and pedal feels mushy ( soft, undefined, like when brakes aren't bleed ), after coding it feels like it did before change.

Looks like you fitted f30 kit, 370mm front and large handbrake rear discs, so do you not have a working handbrake now? Also a point about coding, what exactly changes with that? The system is fully mechanical and if feels like there is air in the system it’s because there is air in the system :)

I have switched to smaller handbrake discs so it works as it should. Coding is necessary because you are switching from 4 pots to 10 in total which have a bigger surface so you need to push more fluid for same pressure ( Pascals law ). On older cars you achieved that with bigger master cylinder, while here you can do it with coding the ABS unit

@@marksargent2908 Don't have a video of that, but it's pretty much the same, you just have to slide the disc over the shoes with a bit more force because it's a tighter fit
