BMW G650X Starter clutch replacement - replacing with non-genuine parts

Having had motorcycles continuously of various nationalities since 1964 I find Rotax starter clutches answering a question nobody asked....how to make a relatively simple, reliable (IE a Japanese) engine component into something unnecessarily complex that relies on a fragile 'garter spring' that can and does easily fail beats me. I've got a BMW G310R which in everything bar name has a 313cc Rotax engine with the same or similar component......I'm waiting for mine to fail followed by a silly BMW bill to put right. A very informative and useful posting though, thanks.

Thanks a lot for this video.I had the same problem and with this video, I could fix it. I only had to change the thin spring . I reused the other pieces.

The same happened to my 'non-genuine' clutch that I tried to install today. I wish I had seen this video earlier

Yes. Although there's a problem with this non genuine part,it's cheaper and still working well.

@@user-roadandwood Yes and only time will tell for me. I'm certainly not complaining - no sir. I nearly had a heart-attack when I was first quoted their price for a replacement ( really not sure where they were getting it from) so I decided to go hunting for cheaper options- which I found and got to finally install yesterday. Now to ride and see how long this cheap fix will last !

Σημερα προσπαθησα να αλλαξω το δικο. Το πρόβλημα ειναι οτι οταν προσπαθώ να σφηξω το παξιμάδι στα 180nm γυρνει ολο το κομπλερ μαζι. Εσενα πως κοντράρει για να σφιξεις?

When you torqued up fly wheel to 180 mm it moved ? So it must have slipped on timing pin bolt ?

소중한 자료 감사드립니다. 38mm풀러가 방향이 있는것 같은데 암나사를 오른쪽으로 돌려 고정시키고 작은 숫나사도 오른쪽으로 돌려 빼내는 것인가요?

Do you need a TDC bolt for this or can it be done without it ?

TDC point is marked on the cam gear, so it was not necessary.

I bought the parts on aliexpress(china). I did not contact them.
