that is a very fast and capable car - I predict many going into the guard rails because most new drivers will watch this and then, as usual, believe they can do it
@pistonburner6448

They should have a separate "Nürburgring Lap Control System" to keep drivers safe there, using all the sensors they have nowadays to know exactly where they are on the track, what speed, and have calculated the current grip levels to slow them down and/or warn them if it detects a totally wrong approach to any corner or section. It might be worth the investment knowing how many laps will be done around that track by BMWs made now over their lifetime. It won't be much cost when divided over all of those laps (and cost of crashes!).
@drogenfeld
@drogenfeld 2 жыл бұрын
@@pistonburner6448 That application is way too specific for a car like an M3. This car was not made for the ring and the company is not ring-focused, so doing this is a waste of money and time for them. What a customer does with their car is also not any of their problems or responsibilities. The car can be safely driven and that is what is required, if a wannabe-race crashes it, that is his responsibility.
@papapetad
@papapetad 2 жыл бұрын
@@pistonburner6448 It'd be more cost effective to sell more parts and cars. A simple optional on/off warning system would be interesting though. Makes sense.

@@pistonburner6448 Well, if you crash your car you either get it fixed or get a new one, so a crashed car means profit for the company.
@pistonburner6448
@pistonburner6448 2 жыл бұрын
@@drogenfeld I literally mentioned taking that into account in my comment, so it's a bit strange that you're telling me your estimation on that factor as if it's a new thing you thought of. First of all, I'd say it's not "too specific" for a car like an M3. I don't know what you mean about it not being made for the ring, as no car ever has been made for the ring and that makes not sense. Also BMW not being ring-focused similarly is nonsensical, as first of all it IS ring-focused as it has tested its cars there basically forever and has a fixed HQ there, sponsors it, races there in many series, etc. etc. etc. I also literally told you my estimation of why it WOULDN'T be a waste of money and time for them. Furthermore you say "a car like an M3". Why? Not only are there massive number of M3s on the ring constantly. Over a 20 year period the number of laps is huge. Just compared to the ticket price alone I'd think that this development cost will be pretty small. And the M3 isn't a separate car from the M4, 3-series, 4-series, and actually the system could probably be fitted as-is to much of the whole BMW range and at least with a few tweaks to take into account the different settings/parameters needed for the different sensor suites and different software systems probably to all of them. Minis and Rolls-Royces too, maybe even Morgans can use it! Fitting (just installing the software) to all cars with the same software system at least should be doable, meaning this would cover a huge range of vehicles. All sharing that development cost. And that will then work for all the laps they do there ever. That is not an insignificant amount of laps by the way, contrary to what you say. You are furthermore incorrect in what a customer does with their car not being any of their problems or responsibility. Totally incorrect in so many ways. That very much is a problem of theirs so much so that they spend a huge proportion of all of their work on exactly that. They are LEGALLY bound to "being responsible for what a customer does with their car" from crash structures to seat belt warning lights to maintenance programs to automatic blinkers... They also have to take into account, in cooperation with insurance companies, how expensive the car is to repair in many scenarios and how dangerous/safe it is. Bumper design has forever been dictated much by that in mind, as has so much else. Even reversing cameras are now mandatory (at least in the USA). So is ESP. So you are incredibly, astoundingly wrong. Of course no company would want to spend money on such a system even if it would be net positive in the end. Mostly because of people who buy these new would seldom want to pay any extra or just pay for it if always included, and overall people not wanting to pay for any safety stuff like that, including those tracking the car mostly not wanting it because they think they don't need it even though it's from that group that all the countless crashes happen of course. And because most insurance companies don't cover Nürburgring crashes they have no interest in joining in the development costs or lowering their customers' insurance premiums. Maybe those insurance companies actually covering Nürburgring driving might want to invest but I think that is an incredibly small business? Very few are insured there, and many are from abroad so no sense for foreign insurance companies to lower rates for all of their customers due to some of them going abroad and maybe one crashing. The Nürburgring crashers are so diverse and so few of them are paid for by any one company. Most I guess are paid for by the drivers themselves and as stated most won't want to pay extra. So this, although probably useful considering if you'd cover all of BMWs for the next say 20 years with extra safety on the Nürburgring reducing the risk of crash significantly would result in lots of savings, probably many times more savings than the costs, you won't find the right sources of payment for that and the whole customer pool won't be interested in paying for cover just for the few who even go to the Ring let alone then end up crashing. I'd think this might be a PR and marketing thing for BMW though: they put that not high at all development cost into marketing expenses and then in return get lots of publicity in volume and also in quality as I think being thought of strengthening their image as a high-tech AND motorsport brand will be valuable. If the Nürburgring track company itself would see a benefit they might even kick in a bit of money, as if they'd reduce the number of crashing BMWs that would mean pretty many avoided track closures which can mean disruption to hundreds and lots of lost ticket prices. Of course those who crash pay most of it but maybe the track company does see a benefit overall though, and does in fact still incur costs. At least the image, public acceptance of the race track and customer experience will certainly improve with less crashes.

A lot of people say bmw “lost it” but I think they’re doing a damn good job with the regulations and market they have to work with today. Sure we don’t get those beautiful high revving NA engines anymore but these turbo engines are awesome and satisfying. Plus, the driving dynamics are just as good and well balanced as they used to be. Whether or not you like the way the new M3 looks, I think it’s an amazing car and quite possibly one of the last true bmws we’ll see since the next one is likely going to be a hybrid.

Everything expands when it gets hot. Pure nitrogen just expands less. But normal air is already 70-ish% nitrogen so the difference is miniscule. This is just marketing taking a technical truth and wildly exaggerating the effects. In reality it's impractical to do, unless you plan to carry compressed nitrogen to the track with you

I saw that the new m4 failed the moose test. Thoughts? My opinion is that I don't drive like that without applying brakes

let us know in advanced when your going to norway.. and you haver two options i gues. Northern light in the winter or GATEBIL in the summer. dont think you will get both.. and from where you have Gatebil (Rundskoen track) to where you will se the light is about 1500-2000km difference.

Misha what do you think. M3/M4 RWD or AWD in a purpose of using as daily in Swedish climate / having a fun car & occasional track sesh? Im thinking about AWD as a daily but i hope that the divivability dosnt suffer that much, is RWD much more fun?

So I know now what my car (G82 M4 comp.) can do in theory. And I also know that actually gran Turismo 7 is really accurate in track design.
