Can we see a Zoe 41kWh challenge? AC charging for the....eventual.....win!
@loonymoon1

I was just saying this the other day. The consistency with charging on the i3 means you really can just know exaclty how long a charge stop will take (charger issues notwithstanding). the 30-40 min average charge for a lowish to 80-90% charge is enough for a food stop and not long enough to be too annoying when in a hurry. I have teh 120Ah last year model and though it's old tech now I'm keeping it. Definitely a keeper. 4 years in i3's now and every time I drive I have a huge smile. the ioniq is superb efficient car but I somehow don't think my smile would be so big driving it ;-)

Okay, alright, maybe I am going to get one. At that price point it is a rust free, really cool car that fortunately some people bought specced fully for reasons I don't understand, but, who cares, I can now get a cheap, carbon fiber compact with rear wheel drive, leather seats and Harman Kardon soundsystem. I already know I'm going to be cursing every time it needs tires though.

I was at a car show the other day and someone brought along a 2014 i3 60Ah REx with 225,000 MILES on the clock (so 363,000km) he said he'd had it since nearly new.. did everything in it and had had very little issue with it at all. Still running original factory brakes...!! (I assume mostly motorway miles and regen braking). Battery capacity he said he still gets 60 miles or so which he reckoned was only a couple of miles off what it originally had. It looked good - interior seats were leather and all shiny and worn so you could see the use it had. My 2022 is a baby!

Having had a Zoe with 22kW charging, I have to agree, hammering it does not pay off..I did a couple of 550km journeys on it and it way better to keep it below 90km/h than to go on the highway and do 120..any time gained on the road was wasted on the charging. I did the same journey this year with my Ioniq 38 and my brother in law took his Zoe..after 200km in the highway doing 90km/h, he had 54km of range and needed to charge for 1h roughly, I got to the same spot with 140km of range...the car is just not meant to do large journeys 😂

In France you can buy a top spec second hand 52 kWh Zoé with CCS for the same price. That is able to drive about 350 km. And about 250 on highway. This car would absolutely smash everything else during a 500km challenge. And the battery does not degrade fast (mine was at 97% SoH at 60k km and 4 years). You should consider to talk more about it. Even if it charges not fast. But by charging at 1C it doesn’t overheat fast. And 135 HP is more tha enough. Plus the ability to AC charge really fast.

Thank you for testing this Björn. Could you test a few more Alpitronic Hyperchargers (the charger that failed the handshake)? I suspect that the Alpitronic Hyperchargers have problems with the handshake with a few older CCS cars. They claim they use the OCPP-protocol, but according to the OCPP website they are not certified. Unfortunately for me in the Netherlands both Fastned and Alego only place these chargers nowadays rendering this useless for me. I am still trying to contact Alpitec about this, but they don't reply at all. I don't have any trouble at other chargers like Kempower, ABB, Tritium, Efacec and so on.

I don’t see how the 120Ah i3 could beat the classic IONIQ if this one couldn’t. Efficiency is about the same, this already has a flat charging curve, and the 120Ah has the same peak charging speed, so all you’d save is the overhead of pulling off the motorway for 1 charging stop, maybe 2 at a push.

Yep but in some have apple car play which helps negate that... these older ones you can fit a multimedia box for android auto/carplay. I have carplay as stadnard inmy 120Ah and never see the idrive interface.. it definitely does make the car feel so much more modern! Car play is a little annoying without touch but generally I use voice for most things. Scrolling on maps is still the one place where I would want touch though...!!

@@bjornnyland yep somehow at one charging stop I saw 51kW at 92% on my 2022 120Ah.. I'm not sure how. It starts to ramp down just after. but even the 120Ah is 5 year old tech now so pretty impressive compared to some newer small cars (honda e... sadly disappointing as I enjoyed my test drive but it wouldnt' tempt me out of my i3S). . I just wish they'd done a 50kWh/75KW verson. I can cope with stopping a little more than the ioniq as I enjoy the car so much... I much prefer the twisties to the BORING motorway drone anyday.. and the i3S is pretty good fun there and probably more efficient there than these highspeed boring drives.

@SnowboardABCD
@SnowboardABCD Ай бұрын
It can be programmed as i3s so it’s faster; 120km is not accurate I think for this battery unless you do 130kmh on a highway - at that point the “aerodynamics” take the toll. It’s carbon fibre so will never rust. Batteries degrade very little compared to other evs, and you can slap wider wheels and tires on it for daily commuting. Also the price is not that much these days. But I agree something like tesla 3 is probably a much better bang for the buck, except for the rusting part

Horses for courses and the i3 and m3 are in different courses really... so it's interesting that people do compare them! It's like comparing a ICE mini to an ICE 3 series people want one or the other for different jobs. Some people run both an i3 and an Tesla and love both.. (even then some still drive the i3 in preference as it's just a bit nippier / dartier for those non-motorway journeys)

I always found it an ugly car. Almost in the category of the fiat Multipla. A car where you would almost feel ashamed driving it. I used car sharing for a couple of months and they only used the bmw i3 so I was pretty much forced to drive it. A couple of months later I bought one, as it really is a great car and driving is just fun. We now also have a Tesla model Y and I honestly prefer the i3 when I know I need to go to the city. The turning circle is so small it is just wonderful (especially compared to the Tesla) It is also more fun to drive. We had a new mini a couple of years ago and driving the i3 is as fun as driving the mini
