BMW i3 Winter range of a 120ah model?

So few views - why, it's a good informative vid. We have the i3S which we use for local stuff and BMW 325i Convertible for fun days or long trips. It's the best combination.

Now I know my car pretty well I try to charge the minimum amount in public as its so expensive. I get disappointed if I get home on a journey where I've had to charge with more than about 10% battery lol. Also a tip is to set the BMW nav to the destination even if you're using the carplay for navigation as then it estimates the range a bit more accurately as it'll know roughly the topology of the roads and the speeds etc. I turn the BMW sound off and use Waze in carplay. Worst range I had recently was 110 miles - 2 people in the car with a headwind (start of storm bert on Friday last week) zero degrees and me driving at speedlimits on hilly roads, with heat on 20 and both front seat heaters on, Eco pro but speed limiter raised to 75 (in case, I generally was around 65-70). I got to my destination with about 5% left - my dad's place and he has a charger) and didn't feel scared enough to turn off the heaters or anything (again I know the car ;-) ) Mine is an i3S so maybe slightly less economical too but I was fairly pleased with that considering the conditions. Mine does have the fairly rare heatpump option, but apparently this doesnt' give more than a handful extra miles really.

Hi 3 adults in the car from Yeovil to reading in 1 to 2 c on thursday and a drop of to Heathrow yesterday fighting a strong headwind from storm Burt. The electrverse app from octopus will help you a lot and it also calculates for temperature and wind as well. Also another great tip is Tesla superchargers down load the app put a method of payment, arrive. at the supercharger plug in open the app enter the supercharger you are plugged up to and charging will start. The app will only show the chargers that are open to non Tesla cars as long as you don't have a Tesla car logged into the account. The Tesla chargers are a lot cheaper than others more reliable and there is always at least 8. The range at a steady 70 was maybe 120 from full however I think in 10c probably 140. after the last few trips the gym this morning stated 112, I'm sure when I start driving this will jump back hip to 140 Now I have washed some more of the clip on the grid serve chargers does your car have. to be locked to charge and also found on the cold trip to Reading we had to run in comfort as eco pro would not keep us warm so ran in comfort where as the trip yesterday we ran in eco pro

A good tip about the Tesla chargers, I have downloaded the app, but I'm yet to try one as 95% of my mileage is local trips. It sounds like you get a similar range to me, roughly. I'm impressed, I expected the weight/speed/temp/wind etc to have a much greater effect.

Cheers! According to the MyBMW app, preconditioning can take up to an hour. I know my car was making the right noises around an hour before the departure time I set, so that seems about right. If you just want to pre-warm the cabin, you can do that 30 mins before. It was nice walking out to the car park at work last night to a clear, warm car, while everyone else was wiping that annoying 'condensation' from their windows 😁

@ianhaskins4619 and if you're at home plugged in, it will use mains power to warm the car so range isn't depleted, at 7p kw/h 👍

Battery preconditioning only happens when plugged in at least 3 hours before departure as the battery heater is only 1kW and it's a big lump to heat up. Cabin preconditoning turns on for 30 mins. For me the cabin gets a bit too warm when in the winter - it's set at 23degrees as a compromise between winter feeling too warm and summer feeling too cool I suppose.

@zachattack19999 I guess if you live on either side of the Thames river crossing they can only be a few miles apart. But from the East of Kent to the North of Essex is well over 100 miles, maybe 120?
