@SDK2006b Жыл бұрын
Euro6 doesn’t mean the exhaust gases are clean. Diesel vehicles are still dirty polluters - put a pipe from the exhaust into the cabin with the engine running and you will be dead within 30mins !😱 Follow a diesel on the road and there is black soot coming out of the exhaust under every acceleration. The majority of people on the road don’t need 650 miles of daily range - that’s the tiny minority of drivers.
@paulh5854 Жыл бұрын
@peterhammer4644 300km sounds more tham 186 miles! I wouldnt even comsider an EV if travelled long distances. A 15 minute stop is no major hardship if you can get on a charger when you need one. For now, I'll stick to ICE.

Have got an X5 and a 4 Series on my driveway, why would I pay £75k for a basic 5 Series…no future in electric until the prices come down…
@keiths66732 ай бұрын
Just took my 2017 530d in on a recall for the driver airbag and used the time to thoroughly look at all the cars in the showroom and they had an i5 touring in there. Sat in the drivers seat, lovely car as is my 530d but obviously this has the electronic stuff. I needed to put my glasses on to see everything (don’t need them in my 530d) but I would be ok with that. Anyway, I set the seat up for me (I’m 6’ or 183cm) then I sat the back. Total show stopper! Because of the raised floor to accommodate the batteries my knees were just about in my mouth - it was just awful! Could never buy one of these and for now i will be sticking with my beautiful and solidly made 530d.

It’s EV’s and SUV’s with the extra weight that have got our roads in the state they are in. Plus the dust from the tires and brakes are a insidious pollutant, as all that weight takes some stopping, and some grip getting around a bend in the Road. The romance of the motor car will end with EV’s and possibly that’s what the planet needs.

This car is spot on, but new car prices even for those with resources are just getting too high, especially with manufacturers having such high interest rates. The i5 needs a bigger battery. Having a range over 400 miles for a sales executive is vital. 200 miles there 200 miles back. Charge at home or hotel. Then you have it.
@Anonymous-ib8so Жыл бұрын
Does not getvround the safety issue with EVs though. Diesel is the real answer. Make diesel even cleaner and the EV is dead. Insurance premioms for EVs have increased ten fold in the last year. My car premium has only risen by 40 pounds.
@richardkennett4086 Жыл бұрын
@@Anonymous-ib8so so buy a diesel. It’s your choice. As a EV the i5 is clearly one of the best yet. If you like your noisy old diesel good for you. Everyone has life choices. I currently drive a BMW with a silky smooth 6 cylinder petrol engine and love it. But I have driven the i4 40 and M50 and both were incredible cars. Range and ease of ownership with the petrol car suits me.
@Pugjamin Жыл бұрын
@@Anonymous-ib8sowhat safety issues with EV’s? The imagined ones? The reality is that EV’s are 20 times less likely to be involved in a fire than ice. And yes, that’s allowing for differences in numbers. EV fires are less likely to spread to other vehicles as they don’t dump litres of burning fuel on the floor to flow around as it pleases. They are also less likely to have fire spread to them as they don’t have plastic tanks full of flammable liquid under them. Yes, the fires can be more violent and difficult to fight, but most services now have started carrying additive chemicals what can be added to the water to smother EV fires, plus there are also devices that deploy under the car to pierce the battery and deploy water / extinguisher chemicals directly into the battery.
@Pugjamin Жыл бұрын

YoubEV abngelists arecliving in a fairy tale worls. EVs are dirtier more expensive and dangerous than ICE cars. Modern diesels are cleaner less polluting than perol or EVs. I like the cleaner lines of this 5 Series but I still don’t think it is a looker. The best looking cars are those which you turn around and look at with pride and affection after you have locked the doors. The i5 does not fit into the drop dead gorgeous category for me. Unfortunately I suspect most cars are now “styled” to appeal to US and Chinese tastes. What was not mentioned was the exterior size of the car - which seem to follow the well trodden formula of within two generations becoming the size of the next model up in the manufacturers range. For a car with sporty pretensions I imagine the i5 is too wide to be able to thread down B roads without too much care as to vehicles coming in the opposite direction. I understand the safety issues that have led to small cars having to get bigger but cars bigger classes just seem to get bigger to accommodate the obese size of their occupants. Another worry I have is all that battery weight must reduce the nimbleness of the car. So overall I guess the i5 will be great for those long weekend runs to the South of France but is it so good for negotiating the B roads of West Sussex or the streets of Chichester?

When I bought a small EV, all I cared about was; how it looked, the drivetrain, efficiency, crash protection, servicing costs and reliability. Awesome looking car but at £105000. What will the touring cost at launch next year

£80-100k a pop and will be selling like hotcakes? Not sure which world you live in but it's one that maybe only 1% do! Yes, plenty of toys to play with and fun blipping the throttle on a manufacturer event day but: cost to insure? depreciation? real world battery range? Fabulous car but a Mercedes AMG E63 would cost you around the same £80k, is faster, has a much greater range, doesn't look like a jelly mould and I bet is more fun to drive.

Just need far more rapid chargers up and down the UK to reduce anxietyv about finding a charging ststion beyond the range of one's home address

Definitely a challenge unless you own a Tesla. I wanted to buy elsewhere but they just have that totally sorted

Sorry you didn't get to keep it longer Pete, It's been great driving different i5's from a personal point of view and seeing how they have performed over the last few weeks , especially since the weather has dropped. I am certain this car will be the peoples choice . 🙏🙏💯💯👍👍

I never understood why BMW stopped selling the i3. What a shame.

Because it didn't make a profit....that carbon fibre cell is expensive

Also I guess it probably doesn’t meet the latest crash zone requirements.

Nice car - the problem is the i5 40 M Sport electric version is £24,000 more than the 520i M Sport petrol version. I'd like to see them justify that… 🤔

Makes sense to not just look at the base price but compare the cars when optioned out.
@SDK2006b Жыл бұрын
That ‘s about the same price difference between the previous 520 and 540. The 40 has significant performance increase of the 520, which BMW has always monetized.

I still dont get how a new company like tesla can deploy its own excousive charging network, and yet behemoths like bmw and others cant do the same. Amazing cars but prehistoric thinking on the infrastrucure...or maybe just lazy
@4literv6 Жыл бұрын
Well said! China is adding over 50,000+new charging piles a month ytd. Almost as many chargers every 30days as tesla has in total! Yet the morons over here with me in the us bemoan we can't spend ANYTHING on ev infastructure. Yet we make 6x the GDP per capita as the Chinese and gave Ukraine over 150billion in the last 18months. Plus we spent like 10trillion on covid and pandemic related b.s. since early 2020 now. 😑

£45k for a BMW 5 Series 🤔🫣 Even the new 2017 520d cost more than that, and we’ve just had 3 years of 10%+ inflation

"Maybe" the best, but for sure the most expensive 5 so far. Ridiculous price. Given the number of reviews all over the internet recently, they have thrown quite a bit of money into ads too. But I still wish them luck to sell this car for this money.
