I custom ordered my i5 back in February and was definitely influenced by your initial review from Portugal. I just picked up my BMW i5 edrive40 last Saturday and drove it 2.5hrs home! Mine is spec'd with the premium package (incudes ACC stop & go + Active Drive Assistant) and thought it was plenty capable for my needs! in my system, when the car is in ADA, it recognizes speed limit changes and will flash 'set' on the instrument cluster to prompt you to adjust the cruise control speed to the new speed limit. It won't do it automatically, but does prompt you to make the change.

27:00 where it's showing "set" next to the speed limit in the gauge cluster it is offering to adjust the speed to match the speed limit. If you hit the "set" button on the wheel it would adjust the speed. Agree with the overall conclusion to get DAPP, though.

@@michaelmlt They do offer level 3 up to 60kph/37mph in Germany since April, so its only good for stop and go traffic but still a big step forward. Their level 2 system is hands-off, which means that you do not need to touch the steering wheel anymore, not even periodically, and you can accept lane changes by looking into the side mirror without the use of a button. So it is kinda like level 2+. Mercedes wants to up the speed of their level 3 system to 90kph/56mph on highways across the world until the end of this year, so they are one step ahead of BMW, but not that far away. BMW has pretty good driver's assistance overall. The real driver's car is a Porsche.
@CheddarKungPao6 ай бұрын
None of them are FSD-like. No other manufacturer besides Tesla is doing surface street turn by turn driver assist. But that said BMW and Mercedes are offering Level 3 on freeways in some markets and hands free on freeways everywhere like some of the others you listed.
@BBingo-v5i6 ай бұрын
@@CheddarKungPao Mercedes is testing exactly that in China actually. The difference is that Teslas system is stupid and uses lots of training data to mimic certain driving styles according to the conditions. Mercedes' system evaluates the situation in real time. I would not bet that Tesla will be first of the car manufacturers to offer certified level 4 driving. Besides that the google company Waymo alread has limited level 4 autonomous driving

I have driven many vehicles with Driver Assistance and own a 23 530 with Driver Assistance PRO. My Pro system operates similar to this video actually. The new 24 5 series has the PRO option that includes HIGHWAY ASSIST! Highway assist is only available on the 24 new 5 series. Highway assist is HANDS FREE on major highways only with the camera activated. The CAM is sensitive to the iris of the eye and sensitive to any look aways. You can go hands free with this feature. BUT , in order to activate it you need to register when you purchase the car meaning it might not be available on a demo. I like Driver Assist PRO on my 23 but I think the actual lane performance on his test was about the same as mine. I live in Colorado and drive that same stretch of road. I do have speed limit recognition. NOW, the other issue with this test is that BMW adjusts to the corners (Slows automatically) so if on this test the car slowed in the corners ( I don't think it did) the test would be unfair. IMy Audis do not do as well aside from the newest A6 (Better than the A4). I drove a MERC recently that did very well. KIA and Hyundai are other favorites.

If you have it set to manual it will just show you what it thinks the current speed limit is and that’s it BUT the other option you thought was auto adjust isn’t. When the speed you are traveling is different than the posted speed limit plays whatever offset you chose in settings, SET will appear next to the displayed speed limit. If you press Set on the steering wheel it will adjust to the posted speed limit plus the offset you chose in settings.

I have a month old new Mini Countryman S E Sport BEV with the Level 3 option pack and it also has this same system as part of the option pack. I have only one issue with it - the distance to the next vehicle in mid mode is too close to the car in front on normal roads at up to 60mph. I haven’t tried it yet on a U.K. motorway but there are 4 distance to the car in front settings - minimum, mid, max and adaptive. I have a 250 miles road trip on motorways all the way this Thursday and will have a play with them all. The Distance Control Adaptive cruise is very smart and will slow the car approaching junctions and roundabouts. My Countryman has the eye tracking- it’s a pain! Regarding the cornering drop outs - in the Countryman I can change the tightness of the cornering - could you have it set to too shallow a cornering setting for the road?

You can buy and own an option like before, and BMW has changed some of their stuff following the bad reputation. But meanwhile, basically everyone of the premium brands are offering it, and so far BMW are on the better side of the spectrum where you can choose 1) not to buy an option, 2) buy an option or 3) buy an option "preparation" to unlock it by subscription afterwards, but option 3 only exists for a limited selection of options. Meanwhile others only offer certain features through subscription plans.

@michaelmlt it's like any electric car, highly susceptible to factors like temperature, elevation changes, speed etc. I had a pre-refresh Model S Performance and now a Plaid, the older one was off much more but the new one has a heat pump and tends to be pretty spot on if I'm not speeding/blasting off lights (which tends to happen fairly often).

@Xetairex6 ай бұрын
For most people, RWD is enough. AWD is actually disadvantageous in normal driving conditions due to its weight penalty. Also it’s mechanically more complex so more things can break. On the days when you need it, using snow socks for snowy conditions and driving slow will suffice for most normal snow conditions. On the plus side, for car enthusiasts, RWD is less confining and more playful, and if you don’t know what I’m talking about, I cannot help you. It comes from driving experience, that’s all I can say. Kyle does allude to it in this video, and a few others from what I can remember in his out of spec reviews. Also, Tesla’s range is not 390, more like 330, it’s been tested many times. Tesla exaggerates their range, it’s well known, by now. Lastly, 0-60 is not the only measure of a car. Ride and handling compromise, nimbleness in corners, NVH control, interior and exterior quality are all pieces that make up a good car. On most of those things I listed, Tesla is a big fail.
@Aegisx56 ай бұрын
@zetairez AWD is not more complicated in an EV because there is no mechanical linkage. The Tesla also includes almost every available option for that price - not nickel and diming customers on options a la BMW. One vehicle being almost double in the 0-60 is one example of many, of how the performance of the BMW can't hold a candle to even the base Model S, not to mention the Plaid for $10K more which is one of the fastest accelerating vehicles ever made. My mistake btw, rated range on a standard Model S is 405 miles - you can deny reality but it's nowhere near as low as 330 miles. Real world range tests of the standard Model S have varied between 400 and 350 miles. Either way, significantly more than the BMW i5. Which makes sense since the i5 has an 84 kWh battery while the Tesla has a 100 kWh battery. The BMW i5 also only charges at 205kW, compared to 250kW in a Model S. The Model S has significantly more cargo room thanks to the sportback design - more than a Ford Escape. Did I mention the BMW has a worse app with little to no meaningful software updates? BMW needs to come out with a "gen 2" that isn't an electric motor snd batteries jammed into an ICE platform. I wish then well.
