@@stevie007 - cars like this aren’t investments. Houses have outpaced inflation for years, especially in some locations. My point was - car prices are high now due higher inflation. Yes in the 1990’s you could buy a new Fiesta for £5k, but even those are £17k for a poverty spec model with an underpowered engine now. I remember in 2005 BMW launching a 760Li v12 for over £70k, then in 2010 a similar model was about £100k. The cost of this is in line with previous models.

I don’t mind the looks personally. Sure the lights are different, but they aren’t offensive. The problem I have with it is that BMW are still working their EV cars to their legacy platforms. Sure I understand why, as it keeps cost down etc, but when you don’t have a huge V8 up front, is there really a need for such a huge front end? I suppose these are the challenges that multi power train type car manufacturers currently face. By their nature EVs and ICE cars have parts of their power trains in very different places, so using the same shell/design for both is always going to lead to a compromised car. If build from the ground up as an EV, I’m sure the same interior and storage space could be achieved in a much smaller (and probably lighter) footprint. Then then leads to greater efficiency and range.

What I can't get my head around is that this car 100Kw, uses the equivalent of 100 single bar electric fires in a single charge. Elderly people are frightened of the cost of heating their homes, actually at risk of hypothermia whilst their neighbours are charging their expensive EV's.. at cheap rates....using Power Stations, Gas, Oil etc running at around 40% efficiency and therefore INCREASING POLLUTION!!! Don't even consider buying a maybe affordable 10 year old E.V. Compared to a 10 year old ICE car which will be a large percentage of vehicles on our roads because the batteries will be too costly to replace. That means that over time, E.V.'s will need scrapping far sooner than ICE vehicles with obvious impact on the environment... My Range Rover P38 passes it's MOT including emmisions every year and is 28 years old.

Peter…this could have been Joe’s next car! A wonderful taxi and just special to ride in but only works as a private purchase when 2+ years old at 60% off list. A friend bought a 2015 730d just before the start of lockdown and traded it back in after 15,000 miles for £4500 more than he paid for it! It was wonderfully smooth and quiet but he felt like he had aged 20 years when driving it…so bought an M5 Competition instead!!😃😃😃

Its just a shame BMWs have become cars you buy DESPITE the looks, not because of them. 2.7 tonnes (before the cinema). Over £130k! Remember Brewsters millions? Buy a few of these and sell a month later, he'd have been there! 😃😃

The heavier a car, the smoother it'll be, regardless of suspension set-up. Rolls Royce didn't add 100kg of noise dampening just because they could; they NEEDED the car to weigh as much as the previous one, for the ride feel.
@beatles4sale200711 ай бұрын
Oh dear…..it looks as if the BMW design team have been working separately on the front and rear again….it’s far too heavy, too expensive, it’ll have epic depreciation and after a few years be great value but massively expensive to run / fix…..So actually it’s basically the perfect 7 series…!

Hi Ped Interesting to see how the other half may live, being driven around in this “Tour de Force” BMW. At £130k plus not going to be a dash to the showrooms. Personally does not appeal to me as I prefer to drive rather than be driven, and I do not wish to drive around in a very high priced mobile Tec lab weighing 2.7t.😥

Skoda front, Alfa rear, big, heavy, and an EV that has taken an extra 10 Tonnes of CO2 to build. Just where do they expect these things to park? This monster is not green. Interior is pretty decent if you like toys. But definitely one to avoid.
@reinmansmith11 ай бұрын
An absolutely lovely place to be as a passenger and no doubt a nice drive ….. but I am left wondering how much you will be able to pick this up for in a couple of years time and how a car that weighs 2.7t with that power is going to eat tyres! I suppose if you can afford £130k that’s not something you care about, but I would choke at the likely depreciation of a car like this….

Does anyone else think car manufacturers and buyers alike have lost the plot as to why we are going electric? How many houses could the batteries of one of these monsters power when hooked up to a small photovoltaic array and emissions saved as a result? What happened to the idea of small battery powered cars for city commuting or shopping? A much more sensible use of limited resources I would have thought. 2.7T?

The front end styling of BMWs these days reminds me very much of the new Skodas on the market. Does that mean Skoda have upped their game, or does it mean that BMW really need to try harder to keep ahead of the competition? Either way, I suppose you're right when you say you can't see the outside of the car when you're travelling in it.

It would make virtually no impact on range, modern electronics are very frugal. The thirsty things are seat motors, which you would use for only a few seconds, and the Aircon/heater, which will depend on personal settings. The TV , Sat Nav, etc will only use around 40 watts max.

Great video Ped. I'm no fan of EVs, and hope we can hold them off for as long as possible, but that i7 is a beauty. But i feel this is the problem. For me, the only EVs or hybrids that I'm attracted to are from high-end brands. And considering how expensive all cars have gotten in the last decade, this feels like a massive problem for the future. Back to the i7 though, do you see yourself getting one for a longer period and journey (i.e up to Scotland and back)? Your reference to Spectre made me think of the Bond films.
