Great car, I own a 2017 model for 2 years now, super reliable, reasonable priced maintenance and better fuel economy than a Prius.. I'd say its the best daily for the used price.

Great to hear your two year ownership opinion, Lee. I'm planning to buy one at some point, and it's nice to know what I'm getting into. I've owned 4 BMWs in a row and after 50K miles maintenance costs get pricey, and given the i8 is quite technically complex that worried me a bit about repairs and maintenance. Your comments put me at ease about buying one. Thank you for sharing.
@marclovescars3 жыл бұрын
@Lee C how many miles does your i8 have?
@lichengsos3 жыл бұрын
@@marclovescars Its currently at 35k, I own multiple cars and I's say its very reliable compares to my other similar mileage cars.
@marclovescars3 жыл бұрын
@@lichengsos Great to know, thanks. I'll be curious to see how maintenance costs look at the 50K mark and beyond, but given you have multiple cars you probably won't get there for a while. :-) My 335i is at 56K miles now and I just got hit with massive repair bills; nothing serious, but being a BMW it's pricey.

@@marclovescars The N45 and N55 engines in 355s are notorious for being expensive because their issues. Not much goes wrong with the i8 besides windshields busting randomly (get coverage for glass) and door hinges failing, which is very cheap.

The thing is this car just went up in value again it’s on the 60.000$-70.000$ range know I think it’s not going to go down from that (great car) not for 160k but good for 60-70k with 370hp and that low weight you definitely have a good sports car.
@marclovescars Жыл бұрын
Agree 100%, the i8 has probably found its new floor on pricing. It is a good car for that money, maybe still a tad overpriced, but it has a lot of things I like.

Why not drive it in sports mode and do the 0-60 and more performance test on it rather than comfort mode?

I did both. No difference for 0-60. Sport mode is better for overall driving though, midrange acceleration, etc.

@@MrInfinity418 I’m with you 100%. One thing I learned after owning 4 BMWs was make sure they’re under warranty! Annual repairs for me were in the thousands, common things too (control arms, thrust rod bearings, oil seals failing). My cars were all babied and garaged with low miles, too, and the oldest was 6 years old. On an i8 I for sure would want a warranty.

@@marclovescars but then again there’s some cons you know parts/ it being out of warranty but waiting dose seem like the best move
@marclovescars3 жыл бұрын
@@darkphantasm5387 Absolutely, an old BMW is a risk (believe me, I know, haha), especially one as technologically advanced as the i8. Hybrid, dual motors, two transmissions, carbon fiber reinforced structure, hydraulic door struts, many pricey parts to think about replacing or servicing. But, some owners on this thread have commented that their i8 has been pretty reliable, so maybe we'll be OK. I'm confident to roll the dice! To your point, waiting may save us $20K in purchase price, and I doubt we'll pay that much in short-term repairs, so waiting is definitely the best option.

@marclovescars2 жыл бұрын

@BN992393 жыл бұрын
If you can get this car around $60k then yes, do it. I've know a few people that got it for this price, brand new at the dealership or 2-5k miles used. At MSRP, hell no! It's pretty slow compared to a lot of other cars at that price range. It's not a slow car by any means, it's just lame that its performance does not match its looks and price tag.

@marclovescars3 жыл бұрын
Fair enough, but I was doing 59 in a 40 zone, so I wasn't exaggerating. The truck was way ahead of me, I doubt he hit the corner at the same speed. Either way, was I really pushing the car? No, not at all, you're right. 59 in a 40 is something most cars could easily do. Hell, maybe that truck was going the same speed! I'm driving like a grandma over here, hah. :-D

How is it a hybrid when you can hear them
@marclovescars3 жыл бұрын
Not sure I understand the question, but it's got a gas + electric motor that work together, thus it's a hybrid. All hybrids make a sound, though most (like a Prius, or even Accord Hybrid) you can barely hear when the gas engine kicks in. In the i8, BMW purposely amplifies the sound of the gas engine to make the car seem more sporty, so it makes more noise than most.
@risen22d693 жыл бұрын
Surprised this was a 3 cylinder 😐
@marclovescars3 жыл бұрын
Same. It's highly modified and puts out serious power for a 3 cylinder, but still, a 3 cylinder doesn't really get my juices flowing. Actually sounds fairly good though. And combined with the electric motor has good power. Still, shocking they'd put a 3 cylinder in a "supercar", although the new Koenigsegg Gemera also has a 3 cylinder in it, so maybe the whole world has gone crazy. :-) The Koenigsegg 3 cylinder makes 600hp though, a lot more exciting.
