I have run 2 of them. 1 coupe since 2015 and 1 roadster since 2019. They are INCREDIBLE to use, so reliable, so smooth, such great feeling through the steering wheel. I never spend anything on repairs, just so easy to service oil and filters. It has to be the CLASSIC for the future and skyrocket in value. BTW I am an Int rally driver and collector. May have had 500 cars in my road life and the i8 is absolutely among the BEST

I have one and you are not going to get 100 mpg in this car unless you drive a whole lot in electric mode which is not doable on longer drives. My overall average is close to 50 mpg, but on longer trips it gets 35 to 40 mpg. 100 mpg is not realistic. Also, the horsepower number is 357, not 330. The torque number is 420 lb-ft plus an additional boost you get from the starter motor which shows up in BMW’s powertrain manual - it adds 11 hp and 37 lb-ft of torque for totals of 368 and 457. That’s why the car feels so quick, it has an an excellent torque to weight ratio. I have had mine for nearly 7 years and I still look forward to every drive. It’s a great car.

Can you give some insight o. Your ownership experience, please. What year do you have? Any issues with the AC compressor blowing up? Maintenance cost? Overall reliability? Decent mileage ones are starting to creep in the mid $40k and I’m considering getting rid of my Tesla Model 3 for one.
@Gadne92.52 ай бұрын
Yea, most certainly a country like US one wont get 100 mpg. Instead here, a more advanced continent, wheres plenty of EV chargers and shorter commuting / driving distances my ownership average MPG is around 98 mpg US (2,4L/100km). I have home charger, my work has free charging, almost every single mall, shopping center and such have chargers, gas stations, football stadiums, ice rings, etc. Of course during longer drives the car will consume more fuel, but on the other hand I can do like 60-70% of my normal commuting on pure EV. Which really ups your MPG figures. It takes me 2 hours to fully charge this car in my home garage here in EU. The i8 was designed more for EU type of use, not for US ... lack of charging stations, poor home charging and ridiculous 110V electric network. I like the car. Instant throttle response, just like in Tesla or such. But no range anxiety what so ever. Its quick enough to figures like 60-80mph and after that, well, it is kind of pointless. As here in EU, one loses his licence for speeding. Depending the country, up to 2-3 years w/o licence if you're blasting down in motorways like "US style". In US, for speeding something like 100 @ 60 zone one gets ridiculous $300 fine, lol :D Here you lose your licence and get something like 2-20k fine, depending your annual income.

@Gadne92.57 күн бұрын
@@mabialaemile8541 I would not get one if I'd live somewhere like Asia or Africa. These are so rare there that the servicing can be real pain in the arse and / or previous owners have maybe skipped services or such. Or road conditions are harsh which adds a risk level for chassis and even high voltage battery (possible ground contacts during the cars life).

You can always watch Pat's Garage. He has lots of facts and problems that can happen to the car. I happen to own a 2014 I8. Not many issues but the issues I've had are sensor on coolant went bad, had to replace. CV boots went bad and on most cars that's cheap to fix but on the I8 you have to replace the axels so it costly. Only 2 size tires so getting tires is limited. I've heard people say they have AC issues but I've never had any. Oh lastly some I8's have issues with the clear coat on the car. Mine has started showing some peeling but I'm getting it re-pained. Other than that it's a great car. Gas millage is between 40 -70 MPG unless you are doing short drives from home to work and back then you get into the 100 MPG. If doing long trips you are getting 35 - 40 MPG. Hope this helps out.

Not to mention, the newer BMW's have an integrated display of both the driver's gauge and infotainment screens; that big screen is super comfortable and adds to my driving experience immensely. In a perfect world, give me I8 with the latest features and I would be in heaven.

You say it has plenty of passing power "even in electric mode" (at 8:09). But electric mode on EVs typically has a LOT more Instant Torque (and power) than an ICE (again, typically).The i8 gas motor provides 236 ft-lbs torque, while the electric motor provides 184 ft-lbs torque. But the electric drive is Right-Now, which is a treat for passing. So I might say it has plenty of passing power "even in ICE mode". Unless I'm misunderstanding something?

I mean the frustrations that owners have can be fixed when getting upgrades. granted, you can avoid those upgrades by just buying another car but if you want THIS car.. you should get a cooling upgrade (better radiator and intercooler), an ECU, some enhancements to the battery (upgrade and trickle), and a new exhaust then it becomes what it really should've been in the first place. At minimum this costs ~ $11k. and if you cant afford that then really you shouldnt be getting a supercar / upperclass eurocar in the first place.

That being said - With innovative hybrid tech - certainly comes a price if things do break... With very expensive cars, even though someone can afford the now depreciated price - always need to remember, if you do have to fix some issue.. the parts and labor price never really depreciates.
