Thanks for making the video. I’ve been curious about 8.5 in particular. I still have the 7 on my 2021 3 series with physical buttons, which I personally think is the best implementation of iDrive, CarPlay, and both touchscreen and physical control interfaces.

Great video as always , could you try a usb flashdrive with video footage on it to see if it works...It didnt on Idrive 8 but believe this has different hardware..would be great while charging.

They are getting rid of the storage place for new BMWs, so could be a good chance your BMW doesn't have it.

Unfortunately not, if you prefer to have it full screen you would have to do the obvious and go into the map itself and it'll take up the screen. Easy way would be to just press the map button near the idrive controller.

Thanks for tons of useful info. I just got an x5 from Sudbury but I am having trouble of finding the data privacy option in system settings. It is missing. Any suggestions on how to turn it on?

I've had a couple times where it was hard to find as well. But I believe you would find it in system settings. Other times I have seen it in the BMW ID menu under settings. kzbin.info/www/bejne/sGq6i2qfYt-CsJY Congrats!

BMW navigation works better with the hybrid mode to switch between gas/electric also it displays the AR on the screen where I don’t think Waze and Google map would. I like Waze live traffic updates though.

True the AR mode is very nice, but Waze will still do it for me since it keeps me out of trouble.

Apple Maps also shows up on the heads up display. And for anyone wondering, my dealer said this OS will be available for my 2023 BMW X5M… I assume that may mean all the other BMWs for 2023 will have the upgrade.

Yes its very likely the G05 LCI will get it in the late fall as an update.

Hi, what about the new bmw ix1 built before march of this year. Just had a ota recently which changed the design very minimal but nothing what i am seeing in your video. Its the version 07/2023.53. Dont know whether that is os 8 still. And do you think it will go to 8.5 in the future?

X1 I believe will not be getting any updates. The 8.5 is only for the X5's and higher. The brand new 2024 X1 is starting to roll out with idrive 9 however there are some hardware differences which will prevent it from updating it.

Hi. Will BMW make an OTA for 8.0 to upgrade to 8.5 ? I know the screen/head unit and wiring are different between the two. But will it be some kind of "Light version " of 8.5 that we can upgrade the 8.0 to? My iX1 is built pre november 2023 with 8.0.

Great question and Yes it's very confusing at this point in time since they are also rolling out with idrive 9 which is about the same as 8.5. I do no believe the X1 will be able to upgrade to 8.5 or 9. Some sources already have said that the 8.5 is only available to the X5 variants and higher and I don't believe the X1 can be upgraded to iDrive 9 since the hardware is newer as well, they are using a android screen in order to support that. I would call BMW to see what they say, but these are my observations.

Is it possible to change/move the widgets, customize? I mean if I want to see weather and radio together, both are "half" widgets. Instead of having to scroll to see each?

The half widgets you cannot I'm afraid. Tried doing it for another client but didn't have luck doing it.

Cool video buy, 1. Is the air blow really working where it blows the air towards the upper body???? I see a big glitch with the system n BMW owners are not really into testing this functionality ? 2. I've tried the A/C in 3 different 2024 X7s, with both new and old system and the A/C simply does not blow enough air.

@@tatoweb glad that u experienced this flawed air flow system. Surprised no one has raised complaints till date, just by getting carried away with the logo n brand. They should be recalling these cars n fix them to retain their brand reputation, if not it will be at stake.

Is a shortcut the fastest way to activate Drive Recorder? I have tried Voice Commands but it only opens the app, I would like some way to start recording as quickly as possible. Also, is there some way (say, by connecting your phone directly with a USB cable) that you can do continuous recording beyond the 60 second maximum? Thank you

I know in some models you could press and hold the surround view button on the center console, but your vehicle may no longer have that. If that is the case I would say yes setting the record button as a shortcut item would be the fastest way. Reading some forums, I am seeing that you can connect your phone and have it function for storage as well. - g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2027353 Honestly speaking if a recording or dash cam footage is important to you, I would invest in the BMW Dash cam here. - www.shopbmwusa.com/PRODUCT/15074/BMW-ADVANCED-CAR-EYE-3-0-PRO-WITH-DISPLAY Drive recorder is great for track runs, it'll only auto save a recording when the airbags go off the last time I checked, but the dash cam will be more use down the road since it can always be recording and even has a g-force sensor for say for example your vehicle gets hit when parked.

Best way to check is to check your rear seat ac controls, if there are two different sets of temperatures you can adjust (one for the left and one for the right) then that's how you can know if it's 4 zone.

I like everything except the new home screen. I think I prefer the old one better, as I can display a large time and temperature. The icons at the bottom and the climate control screen are excellent. I hope my 2023 i4 M50 can get it. My one wish with the i4 is that I would like to be able to set the iconic sound level, especially in sport mode...

For the i4 I believe it has to come from the factory, so 07/2023 or newer, it won't be able to upgrade over the air either unfortunately.

Most likely not. The Nav or Map button will go into waze as long as it's the one that is currently active though.

Hello! Could you tell me how to install Spotify music streaming on IDRIVE 8.5? After the last update 2 days ago, it disappeared...on the BMW service they said that they had broken off cooperation

I've also heard from another that the spotify icon went missing on the idrive. You could check to see if there is a menu item called "personalize menu" where the spotify icon use to be, in the last idrive that was the only menu you could go into to show it on or off. Worst case, you android auto or apple carplay to access spotify from your phone.

On my old ex five I was able to select like for example 48° as a default temperature so my car knew if the temperature was below 48°, my heated steering wheel and my heated seats would automatically turn on. However, I can’t figure out how to do that on my new 2024 BMW X5 is that still a feature?

Climate control rules! That's one feature I wish they kept. The way that it's designed to work is having your climate control set to auto, the heated seats and wheel should turn on automatically and intensity will shift depending on how quick or slow the vehicle is trying to get to the target temp.

I would love a gauge cluster update so you could change your speedometer and rev counter. Its pretty ugly really, even before I purchased the car I thought these are really ugly though with all that tech, you'd think you could change the view.

@BeamerView I’ve experienced the ‘content’ disappearing from the instrument panel and the heads up display. I have a new 2024 X5 which came with 8.5. It has now been in the shop for 3-days (I’ve only had my X5 for 1-week now). I sent videos to the dealer showing the issue. The dealer couldn’t find anything so they are communicating with BMW now. The navigation system was also off. My home address was .5 miles off. Have you seen or heard of these issues with 8.5? Thanks for your videos and sharing content. Cheers

Hey John, yes there has been many issues with 8.5 since the system is still less than a month old. I wouldn't worry too much however, these things are normal when new softwares are released and updates will come more frequently to make sure things are resolved quickly. It is quite unfortunate for it to happen on such an expensive product so I would also be frustrated as well. But, just know you have the latest software yet and that once the fixes are made it'll work out for the better in the long run.

Good point, many loved the buttons too. It took some time to get use to the touchscreen but I found using voice commands solves a lot of the issues.

If you have idrive 8 which is the one that has vertical widgets going down the screen, you can scroll all the way to the right and should see a plus icon you can press to add more, there isn't really much. If you have idrive 8.5 which is what's in this video, you cannot really add any more widgets on the home screen. The small box you would see on the home screen on the left is the only ones you can adjust either by swiping up and down or left and right.

For some reason my 2024 X5M didn’t upgrade the new menu on the bottom of screen or new Home Screen. It did switch over to the new climate control system. Do you know if there’s a plan to switch the X5M to have all the new 8.5 features? My wife’s 2024 X5 M60 did fully change. Frustrating!

Yes it's very odd if the climate menu changed but not the bottom menu, I'd try a iDrive reboot to see if that helps, if it has not changed since I would bring it in to get it checked.

I do not believe so. Last generation BMWs had this function called climate control rules which did help with having those features on during remote start but they did remove it for the new OS system.

The home screen totally sucks. Very badly designed. We cannot customize it like the older one. Everything is predefined. Also, for android auto, the screen looks very blur. It is not crispy. Another annoyance, is that you cannot reorganize the shortcuts without deleting them and adding them again.

It does take some time getting use to, I do personally like the new home screen better than the last since it's more useable, either way, I'm using AA or Apple Carplay more so it doesn't really matter. Haven't seen AA yet in the new system but I'm sure if it's not perfect they will make some updates and bug fixes soon.
