Honestly I don't think the V8 is even the biggest issue. If it was a full EV with that performance it would have sold at least a little better. The issue is that it's just the worst of all worlds, there's nothing good about it. It's heavy, probably actually not economical at all, sounds like crap and just doesn't offer anything worth having. 1/4 mile times are great for Carwow videos, but we're well past peak useful performance - I daily drove a 981CS which does a 12.7s 1/4 I believe. Being faster would just have meant less time hearing the nice sound, that's 1 downside and no upside since "faster" isn't useful, nobody cares if a tuned Golf R beats it off the line, since nobody has noticed the Golf was there, whereas an old E-Type next to it would make the much faster Porsche anonymous in the same way. This car makes me so ranty 🤣

If it weren't for the soft limiters that audis have, most of the time, the audis would sound better. unpopular opinion but, most modern BMWs sound pretty bad. The Audi R8 v10 needs no introduction, the 2.5 5 cyl sounds fantastic, and this 2.9 V6 definitely sounds better at open throttle than the BMW (and obviously the Merc lol). Back then, however, AMG engines had glorious sounds.

I always had myself either an M3 e92 and then upgraded to an E400 coupe however last year I was ready here in Australia to get a E63 coupe yet did I realise that they don’t make them so I was forced to get a E53 as it’s the top spec little disappointed but after owning the car for 9 months and a tune up I’m getting close to 650hp now and 0-100km in 3.8s however she drives like a monster and is well planted being 2.2tons as well for a coupe hahah😂

The issue with the C63 is the fact it's already highly strung in terms of engine performance. Lightly tune the M3 and it will leave it in gappistan and the tuning potential of the S58 sends it into hypercar territory

A difference of 400kg will just ruin your performance in the corners, but in a straight if you have more horsepower (and especially more torque) you are going to win regardless. Whilst Mercedes usually under delivers where it is towards 660 to 670 probably on the dyno. Similar story with torque, and BMW tend to be lighter than they say whilst Mercedes is heavier. So that gap might also be somewhere to 450 to 500 rather than the 400 that is being said. And BMW tend to pull a bit better at the top than Mercedes. It might not be enough to topple this much of a difference. But if the BMW is around a 50 hp to a 100 hp disadvantage it can still eek out a win.

Wie ist das Lenkgefühl, Rückstellkräfte, Abstimmung des Fahrwerks, einfach das generelle Feedback des Autos das sich mit keine Punktesystem erfassen lässt?! Da hat Mercedes ohnehin schon immer große Probleme gehabt... Aber wem erzähle ich das...Leute wie du kapieren in ihrem kleinen Mikrokosmos überhaupt nicht von was die Kenner reden! Hauptsache es blinkt und ist prollig! Und für mehr reicht es bei euren Unterentwickelten sowieso nicht - geradeaus fahren! Wenn du dann auf der Nordschleife mit deinem C63 aussenrum von halb so starken Autos überholt wirst weil ihr auch schlichtweg nicht Autofahren könnt, redet ihr euch dann gerne selbst ein "wenn ich wöllte"...und dann später auf der Straße an einer Ampel beschleunigst du dann deinen Kontrahenten aus und in deiner kleinen Welt ist alles wieder in Ordnung - lächerlich!

Saw a true 6,2L V8 in an "old" C63 two days back. It sounded marvellous. No aftermarket exhaust, just pure joy. Tbh, the new C63S performance e-turbo hybrid next gen ultra what-so-ever could have 1.000 hp and I still wouldn't want to have it. My X5 M50d from 2014 is just 100kg heavier than the C63!!!

11:30 Dear Matt, my first automatic Merc was a 1994 c-class, and it's usermanual stated that "in case of a kickdown, this is seen as an emergency and the car will shift down as fast and as low as possible to give you maximum accelleration". I know they ditched many Mercedes qualities, but i doubt they ditched that. And that's why it did what it did in comfort mode when you floored it. The car thinks you need all the power now and ignores the 25% rule for normal comfort mode. All that said, as a long time Mercedes owner and AMG driver i actually don't care that this so called C63 won. It's not a 63, and it weighs more than an actual 63 S class (with the V8). I mean my E63 is the weight of the M3 touring in your test and has a 6.2L V8! A previous AMG boss once said: "most AMG owners start their car with the door open." And with this C"63" they completely ignored what AMG driving and ownership always was about it seems. And in general i have the feeling that Mercedes lost it's way in the last 4 or 5 years. I mean already with the touch sensiteive steering wheel buttons in the W213 it started i think, and with the complete "Tesla fan screen" its the current peak in completely loosing the intuitiveness and practicability of the HMI in a driving vehicle. Sad to wittness. (Sure many manufacturers go that way, but still Mercedes in earlier times didn't give a f** about the others, but did what made sense in HMI, then adopted the iDrive thign BMW had invented which i think is a very good way of controlling the infotainment in a moving vehicle, and then they went the idiots way in my opinion. Very sad. I hope my AMG keeps on driving for a long time, because there's no current Merc i would want to own. (maybe a G, but they are astronomically expensive, and so...that's not going to happen, at least not ones made after 2018. Maybe an old one one time as a classic car...)

It's all to do with regulations. They make so many Trucks that put out high emissions, that they had to put a small engine for the C63. Luckily the CLE63 Coupe (which is basically a C63 coupe) gets the V8, but it will sound very muted from factory as they have to do so much work to get it through the latest emission regulations. But still the V8 is a V8. Luckily the C63 is one of the few AMG models that will have this 4 cylinder configuration. The E63, AMG GT and the likes have the V8 option.

@@thugmelo don't get me wrong! the new C63 (yes despite the name) is an incredible machine. The F1 derived turbo, especially. Its a nice car overall. But it does have its challenges. Stuff like its weight for example. All the hate the new C63 is getting wouldve and couldve all been avoided with the E63S powertrain in it, rather than the 4 cylinder hybrid. Many thought that it wouldve been exactly that as the new C63S.
