This video shows the disassembly and removal of my 2001 Z3 2.5i M54 intake manifold. This is the first time doing this so the struggle was real at times. My Z3 is also a 5-speed manual so an automatic may have additional parts to remove.

I really like your slow and steady (and detailed!) method! Watched a couple videos where, they just fast forwarded past everything! Thank you soooo much for taking the time to put this together! It has been invaluable already! Please keep up the good work!

Thanks and I'm glad my video is helpful. I watch a lot of KZbinrs do mechanic work on various cars and a lot of them assume the viewers know how to do everything so they skip a lot of the important details. I wanted to make my channel more beginner friendly cuz for most of us who own a Z3 this is our first car that we're working on ourselves.

You are most welcome. It's a big project to replace all the things under the manifold but it's worth it before things degrade too much.

I recommend the "02Pilot" mod for the CCV - connect the little 3.5 mm port on the oil separator (has a vacuum plug on it) to any unused vacuum port on the back of the manifold. Costs only 1 m of 3.5 mm vacuum hose, and took my oil consumption from 400 miles per litre to 1500+ miles per litre. Can be done with the manifold on the car from underneath, if your arms are long enough!

Great content Terri, im in the UK and doing my research to buy one of these little beauties. Your vids are excellent and really helpful 👍i think which engine to go for is my biggest decision, want a 6 pot but which one, is your 2.5 plenty for fast?
@CoolcatsAlley
@CoolcatsAlley Жыл бұрын
The 2.5 is a good choice. However, if you're looking for doing motorsports and you want to have a sportier experience than the 2.8 and 3.0 are more popular for that. Those cost significantly more so it's going to come down to whether or not you feel the added cost is worth it. I would recommend the 2.5 to anyone. I think it's a solid choice.

@CoolcatsAlley great thanks, i think i was heading that way. There's plenty of 2.2's over here not sure if they had them there, not sure how quick they are, not for racing but weekend fun on the back roads while we still can!
@CoolcatsAlley
@CoolcatsAlley Жыл бұрын
@@miles-thesleeper-monroe8466 Ah thrn the 2.5 is all you will need to enjoy yourself. Over here we have the 1.9 which was the first version and then they gave us a 2.3. there's also the M models. And then of course the 2.5, 2.8 and 3.0. as long as you get inline 6. You should be good to go as long as it has a good maintenance record on it.

@CoolcatsAlley finally took the plunge and got a 3.0 M54 with 100k. She's needing some TLC including a bodged repair on that throttle body boot so I've got the confidence to order a replacement after seeing this amazing tear down. Thanks so much. My engine looks exactly the same as yours which I'm very relieved about! My next job is to track down a power steering leak, which isn't coming from the bottle or its hoses. The pump works but need to find that leak and pray it's not a big job! Anyway thanks again following you all the way 👍

@@miles-thesleeper-monroe8466 Congratulations on your new to you car! With the 3.0 make sure you check the welds inside the trunk and around the rear differential. The rear subframe has a tendency to break so give it a good look over. There are lots of videos that you can look at to show you what to look for for the rear sub frame.

There is no need to be careful about not moving the flapper on the DISA valve, it is the throttle body that you have to be careful about.
