BMW Isetta restoration Ep 11 rear suspension (chain case) assembly.

Hello! My name is Thim and in this series I will document the process of restoring a BMW Isetta 1957 to top condition. I will be as detailed as possible to show what challenges that may appear through the restoration, and tips and tricks along the way to solve typical mechanical problems.

The Honda S500, S600 only used a single #530 chain for a 1500 pound car. Later they switched to a dual row #420 chain. That Isetta dual row chain looks super heavy duty. Also may I suggest get a copper hammer instead striking steel on steel or get a cheap hydraulic press

I also think the Isetta chain should hold for long. Good idea to use a softer metal hammer as well, but I am carefull only to strike the outer ring, thus not stressing any moving parts or scrathing the surface ;)

Thank you, I hope you enjoy them! Unfortunately I have not had the time to work on the project for some time. I'm pretty sure something is wrong with the seal, but at the moment I'm focusing on the engine 👍

Use a plastic bag to pack the bearings. Place bearing in bag with grease then massage grease into bearing. Hands stay much cleaner and it packs mich better.

That's right! The rear wheels are so close togheter they figured there was no need for a diff! 😊 Quick and simple.

The teeth on the chain sprocket look very worn, they are pointed

Noooo! Not just a big hammer! Heat the cases first!

I do have a big hammer, but I do not use much force :)
