BMW iX2 v's Audi Q4 Sportback - Did I choose the wrong car???

Bought the IX2. I know the back is polarizing but I love it! Front is a killer and driving is what much is about and its handling is fantastic! Awesome choice sir!

I dont like Coupe cars including the iX2. However iX2 is a wonderful car to drive and the build and tech is top notch.

Audi know their target customer. As you pointed out, you feel straight at home in the driving seat. Dash layout with two screens is instantly familiar. The instrument layout is clear and precise. The fact there’s no head up display won’t be a deal breaker for most buyers. The BMW is more of a challenge in several ways, but the cost and the looks are surely the first things most drivers will consider. I drive a Skoda Enyaq coupe, which ticks most of the boxes that both these do. However, it isn’t a prestige brand, but by comparison, a relative bargain when you consider its underpinnings. The Enyaq Coupe is one of the cars I allude to in the conclusion. I agree with you, I think it tick a lot of the same boxes. And I do wonder whether Škoda is actually gaining ground in terms of whether it needs to be prestige or not. I think less people are bothered by badges now, and look more towards what offers the most for the money, and I think the Enyaq trumps both BMW and Audi on that front. And having driven a lot of Škodas recently, I'd say the quality is now on a par (if not a bit better) than Audi. So you've made the right choice! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.

@@AutoEV Your statement about value more than badge is spot of for things today. BMW has been getting pricier and the iX1, 2 and 3 is small inside, If you're short, it's fine but, I would have expected for EVs they would have simplified their lineup and offered more space inside the vehicle. The Chinese brands are doing well and will improve over time, for the material they offer inside as well as overall price, BMW may end up losing sales on these small vehicles and eventually have to increase size or drop them.

The BMW looks like someone has went mental in Halfords at the max power styling aisle, obviously aimed at the younger market. The Audi just looks more classy and prestige and looks like it’s money.

Thank you for this review, these models and the Kia Ev6 were in my short list few months ago. In summary the Q4 has: 1/ a better range (more than 310 miles with the 2024 model) which is not taken into consideration in some sites (as the previous version was less efficient..) 2/ more space in the back seats 3/ a better designed back if I can say ( I prefer the BMW front than Audi) These 3 criteria are for me decision maker It’s true the BMw has maybe a better inside material with less hard plastic. The Q4 is more traditional and don’t try to look like a spaceship because it’s an electric car and it has to show it (customers target is different). Something catch my attention in your review : - there is normally a cable storage beneath the boot , weird your test car don’t have it ? It’s not an option in my market - the head up display on the Q4 (an option) is a highlight of this car , too bad not in your test car. Comparing 2 cars with one you know for several months is not a good idea (even you are absolutely fair) because you know much better your car and therefore it’s impossible to be fully balanced (it’s normal) Thanks again !

The German cars are really out of date compared to the Hyundai Ionic 5 which I chose after driving them all. The Hyundai has a 320 mile range and charging is at 350kw so 18min charging. You also get way more tech on the ionic, electric front and rear seats with heat and cooling, pan roof, digital mirrors, it also looks way better than the German cars.

Nice review! I like how you've provided both objective and subjective measures which is why it's so important to drive EVs before purchase. I'm in Canada so the iX2 was not an option. I've had my Q4 55 for a year now and love it. A few notable comments that may be due to differences in country/model/year --- mine is a base model but does have cable storage, behind-seat storage (mesh), panoramic sunroof and power seats (driver only).

I drove my parents to the airport in thier BMW edrive 40 and it is so smooth, you basically glide over the road and basically don't notice time passing. Thier ride engineers are geniuses. Obviously its twice the price of my MG4 but you can feel that price in the driving, you feel the road imperfections in the MG4. Although my MG4 has electric seats.

Great review but I couldn’t consider either of them partly for the money but also because of their (lack of) efficiency - Audi, BMW and Mercedes seem to have gone down the bigger battery = bigger range route but don’t consider that the added weight destroys the efficiency meaning they cost more to run in the long term

Had an iX2 rental in June for a week and thought it was very cramped inside. We were shopping around for an ID3 replacement in July, going through most of what you listed in ‘Competition’ but ended up with a Smart #3 which you didn’t mention. It hasn’t had much fanfare but it’s a lovely car and great value.

@@rojen8571 Well I have driven all 3, as has my wife, in fact we had an iX2 rental for a week in Spain up to the day before we test drove the Smart #3 Brabus back in the UK. There was a clear step up in quality both in the drive and the interior materials. It's also way more spacious while significantly smaller. It feels more like a mini Taycan than an ID3 competitor.

Nearly went for a Q4 a couple of years ago as a company car, liked it on a test drive and nice interior. Ordered one, however the delivery date kept being put back and ended up as 18 months! Gave up and went for a smaller runabout EV instead. What I will say is I’ve had a look at leasing rates for the Q4 as I’m changing car next year and they have rocketed from where they were in late 2021, more than 50% higher on my company scheme and too much for me. That’s a shame and likely to go for something like an Enyaq instead which are considerably cheaper to lease.

Everybody is complaining about the high price of the BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Porsche. However, when it comes to it, people still happily choose those German brands over any other brand. Because build quality, excitement, emotional involvement, heritage and design all are values many times overlooked.

I hope you had a good time in Wales, at whatever car you were looking at, I hope it went well. I typed this out on my phone and paste & Copied I hope you enjoy, as I enjoy your fantastic reviews so let’s get into it, I think the iX2's black stuff looks like it’s made from LEGO bricks however I like it, you can forget what the car looks like when you are in the driving seat almost perfectly positioned steering wheel to seat and remember the car has the M SPORT badge that means the car will drive well however at the price with no powered seating I wood go for the i35 X2 it’s cheaper a lot cheaper even with the Matt blue paint finish I picked at £2000 and electric seats, and also the heated steering wheel, I must be mad at a price £135 however if you don’t pick this the button is blanked off on the console cheaper buying a Wee pair of knitted gloves from Scotland for a tener, I don’t remember the price the BMW dealer quoted me however it was around £5000 less with more stuff and the best bit paddle shift in red colour paddles. Right up my driving street, the other car the Audi I don’t like, in fact I pushed the review video on sorry, i’m not wasting electric as it’s expensive watching a rubbish car, as good as your reviews are for me and it’s a big no no as soon as I seen the steering wheel far too thin and the diameter of the steering wheel was miles too large giving me the impression of the car massively under steering for me it’s steering wheel first and does the rest of the car work before I buy, if I had a choice it would be the BMW X6 over the Audi and even over the iX1 and iX2. As soon as I seen you chop of the back quarter of the iX2 I immediately thought of the iX1. Conclusion”s. BUS or add to my shopping list well I wood take the BUS over the Audi, I don’t like it very pricey and the interior is terrible. the iX2 BUS, or add to my shopping list, well that’s a easy one it’s added to the shopping list good drive, car set up steering wheel to seat very good, very high quality interior, I like the paint and the LEGO black bits and yes these are a extra from the M SPORT Pack, for me however I’m still looking at the Renault scenic, compared to the Peugeot E 3000, I don’t like the seat to steering wheel set up, you sit like a tank regiment commander as the seat is far too thick in seat hight, I also think the Mark E FORD is too expensive not forgetting Genesis there are only two dealers in Britain ones in Scotland and the other London the Scottish Golf open is called the Genesis open where the golfers drive to the course using Genesis Cars and again I wood pick a BMW over a Genesis Car, Genesis are to expensive. as the meerkats would say simples

A car for that price with that range, you would have to be completely nuts to buy even a base iX2. Every single little thing is an option. Does it drive well? Sure. Nice interior? Sure. Bet tech- battery- and price wise it's a disaster.

The question is not relevant. Both cars do not offer what you can buy for 20,000 pounds less with same or better performance, space, consumption, range and charging speed.

But then you could argue that a BMW 7 Series or Mercedes-Benz S-Class offers more equipment, better economy and just as much luxury as Rolls-Royce costing twice the price. You will always find cheaper alternatives to any car that offer similar experiences. Although I think the Škoda Enyaq Coupe offers more for less, although not £20k less. And it's built on the same platform as the Audi.

No electrically controlled seats on either car smacks of cost cutting to maintain profit margins…………. My 2024 Countryman S E Sport Level 3 is built on the same platform as the iX2, is built on the same production line and has a far better interior build quality than the iX2. Also even in its most expensive form the Countryman is considerably less expensive than the iX2. And my Countryman has electrically controlled front seats…….

I drove all of them, the Q4b etron is a low quality car, a lot of wind noise inside, steering hydraulic like from a trusk, verry bad breaks, verry bad suspensions, loke a boat. The Bmw ix2 drive is verry good, good chassy, suspensions, nothing to blame ! The design is verry ugly, ugly interior, ugly steering wheel, ugly exterior, stupid design.
