I would love to know your thoughts on the following.Skoda Enyaq or Renault Scenic and Skoda Elroq or Renault Megane.The reason I ask is I am soon to be able to choose a motability vehicle and I like all the above.Or do you recommend an alternative.Thanks in advance and I really enjoy both your channels.All the very best to you and all the family.👍🏼

Be confident and download a couple of apps such as A Better Route Planner. Don’t charge to 100%, take it up to 80% and try to coincide a charge stop with lunch break/coffee stop. There are lots of ultra rapid chargers in services now. If you use the Cupra’s inbuilt navigation, you’ll probably find it’ll precondition the battery for your arrival at the chargers. And just remember, you don’t have to drive at 50mph without the radio or air-con on. Ionity and some of the new Gridserve chargers are pretty powerful and quick and lots are also contactless now too. But let me know if you need anything specific and I’ll try my best to help.

I'm retired, 70yo so value for money & spec is important. My Karoq is SE-L, with Pan Roof, Heated seats & wheel and automatic. I'd want same spec in the Elroq but if I buy new am I going to breach the tax bill due at circa £40,000, if so I may rethink as I came to Skoda from Volvo, eg I sold my 2019 V60 D3 because of the car tax situation - Food for thought...

I think your charge times for home charging are a bit out. 12 hours 30 mins on a 7.4kW wallbox would deliver around 92kWh. Even with a 10% transfer loss, that would be 83 kWh, well above 58 kWh. I would expect 8 hours 40 mins for 7.4 kW, and 5 hours 50 mins for 11kW.

If you don’t need the rear seat space, and can live with a 200 mile range in winter, the Megane. Great car. The Elroq is bigger in the rear for passengers though and will have a longer range. Don’t depends on your priorities. But to drive, the Megane takes some beating in my book.

Still think my BMW i3S beats it in every department. Better looking, more space, more versatility, simple controls and made from better materials. Why oh why did BMW give up with it. I own an original 1275 Cooper so I am a Mini fan, just not a fan of this one.

I mostly support your choices, but not this time. The Inster is - by far - the best city car. As the Honda e was back in the (too short) days. Where the Inster brings substance, the Renault 5 brings flashy looks. The 5 is what the young call "over-hyped". The Inster out-shines it in every department that matters. And let's not forget that on one side you have the quality and reliability of Hyundai, when on the other you have the lack of the aforementioned by Renault (I have a french passeport, so I'm allowed to say it out loud). In my opinion, the Inster outshines the 5 also in the looks department, because it has personality (as you said so yourself), where the 5 has just gloss that will quickly peel away.
@AutoEV
@AutoEV 23 сағат бұрын
I won’t disagree with your points on the Inster. I think it’s a great car. Had I not fallen for the charms of the R5 it would have been a class winner, but I just can’t overlook the “want one” appeal that the Renault brings at the money it’s priced at. But I don’t have any objection to you disagreeing with the final rankings as we love the little Hyundai. All valid points you’ve made.

I'm debating over the Air with the 81Kw battery or a Hyundai Kona Advance with 65Kw and Comfort pack (heated seats in back as well as front plus heated steering wheel, plus wireless charger and privacy glass). The Kia has very little discount, whereas I've found a deal on the Kona for £30,500, a 25% saving on RRP! I really wanted a car around the same size as my A3 hatchback, which the EV3 is but maybe I should be making more space in my garage for the Kona! The only long journey we do every couple of months or so is 125 miles to Wales (250 miles return), so the EV3 would probably do this without having to charge. However, the Kona has a Heat Pump as standard and I really think that this will help during our cold Uk winter months with range/preserving the battery charge. If anyone has a newer Kona, do you think it does 250 miles on around 200 miles of motorway driving on full battery charge? Plus we'll be keeping this car (cash purchase) for 5+ years, so what would be best for us?

I ordered a new EV3 two days ago. I had decided that I wanted the Air model with the small battery and the default Sunset Orange paint. However, I was informed by the dealer that I would have to wait until July for that spec, but if I went for the larger battery model I could get it by mid February, and to help me decide they offered me £1000 off the additional cost, so I went for the larger battery Air model. This will be my first electric car and I was not entirely sure that I had made the right decision, but having watched your review of the EV3 Air, you have set my mind to rest, so thank you. I currently own a petrol Mercedes B Class, and I wanted a new car with a similar size. The EV3 is slightly shorter but has more space inside, including the boot. I am really looking forward to receiving my new car.

This is an excellent review of the Kia EV3! I'm eagerly waiting for mine to arrive. I opted for the entry-level version since it was the quickest to become available. While I might miss some features from the higher trims, the price-to-equipment ratio of the base model is impressive and I think well worth it.

Since Renault is bringing out the Twingo again, for the R5, they should have taken inspiration from the modular bench seat to offer the alternative between trunk volume and rear seat depth. Which would have removed a thorn from the side of the rear passengers, and the defect noted by all the expert reviews. Let's hope that in the next version, Renault will think about it. It would be good if in 3 to 5 years, Renault manufactured them with a hybrid engine, which is cheaper.

Firstly, brilliant review, Bryan - and not just because you echo much of what I feel. The camera work and video production are really good by the way - it is clear you've taken a lot of time to set up different camera angles to work alongside the excellent narration - bravo. I am really glad you've not followed the motoring crowd and bemoaned the lack of push buttons in the cabin - every review I've seen talk about lack of buttons as a major downside to this vehicle - i just don't get people's continuing obsession with it and the idea people won't but this car because it "doesn't have enough buttons" is ludicrous. The user interface is beautifully laid out in this car - looks great, easy to use, responsive, intuitive. I do agree the lack of indication on the steering wheel buttons can be confusing, but i think that's because the buttons have different functions depending on which mode/part of the screen/setting you're in at the time, so there isn't really an icon that covers everything? I just ordered my P3, having test driven it along with the Porsche Macan, Audi Etron, BMW IX, Tesla and the P4. I can honestly say i have never been so excited to get a car, and it's my first full EV after 3 years in a Volvo XC60 T8 hybrid (and that was the best car i've ever driven/could afford in all my years of driving). It was an easy decision to make to get this car, even over the P4 - it blew all the others away with the quality, handling, aesthetic and - as Bryan says - the attention to detail. Cannot wait!!

Great review, I think that BMW is going to emerge right at the top of the EV market after this global electrification shake-up, I’ve driven them all my life (currently have an i3S) and intend on buying one of these in a year or two. Apart from on three occasions, I’ve bought all my cars at least three years old and this car is going to be a bargain in the near future,

I watched your review and, to be honest, this was not the car my wife and I were considering purchasing. After test drive at the local Mini dealership in Sydney (back to back with a test drive of a 3 door Cooper which we were originally considering as a second car) I agree with you totally - it has 'oodles' of personality and is fun to drive while feeling well planted on the road (and the 'grin' factor when driving is great). We decided to purchase one and pick ours up next week. Good in depth review. Thanks Bryan.
