Always loved my K1100LT while I had it, they are the perfect mile muncher. 500 mile days never a problem, just sit there in comfort and dial in whatever speed you want to travel at. The engine is a torque monster, you can happily leave it in 5th and roll on and off the throttle, from 30mph to 130mph all in one gear.. they are also surprisingly good when you get to the twisty bits and you can easily surprise some sports bikes on the road….. once the revs get over 5000rpm she really takes off! I now have a 1990 K1 (which has the same 4 valve head and delivers the same levels of torque) to compliment my 1983 R100RS, but I still get the urge to get another LT or a R1100RT as a tourer in the garage! 😊 ….. PS you do get used to the indicators and the self cancelling element is excellent 👍

Thanks for the information, great to hear, yes I love the lazy 5th gear option, good on aging wrists 👍 enjoy your K1, timeless bike. Thanks for watching.

A K1100LT would hardly if ever need a valve adjustment. That relates more to the boxer engine, not inline engine. I have a 94 K1100LT bought new, have never adjusted the valves. They are still a good bike, and the technology back in the day was ahead of its time.

Na, Na mate. It’s the operator. Just wait till your on a wee busy naggery town roundabout AND have learned the switches , you can flick between L & R & cancel soooo smoothly. Ive a ‘92 K100rs ,had her 20 years ,mid 40 thou miles, my magic carpet. ENJOY a classic long life motorcycle.

Nice video, thanks! My RT 1150 has the same indicator set-up. By the way, BMW did change this not so long ago. Modern BMWs are now similar to the switch set-up of Japanese bikes. Personally I prefer the old BMW set-up. Moving from one of my Honda's to the Beemer, never a problem. The other way around and I'm trying to turn on the right indicators with a switch on the right handlebar unit and that switch is not there. After adjusting the angle of the grips to my liking (not nearly as straight forward as on any Japanese bike) the switches are situated perfectly for me. I have to say that I prefer the quality of my Honda's over the RT. Example, my RT is from 2001 and so is my CBR600 F4i. Comparible mileage, not winter bikes. Many bolts on the Beemer are rusted (well, were - I solved that), none are on the CBR. I love working on the Honda's, not really a fan of working on the Beemer. Most servicing is done by a BMW specialist. Seems the way many Beemer owners do it: ride it, clean it and have it serviced by the dealer or a specialist. My RT has a full over 20 years BMW dealer service history, THE reason for me to buy it. Ride it often and you will get used to the indicators!

Thanks, I was out today again and it was beginning to gel a bit better. I think the BMWs of this particular era were probably the best the Germans made. Like all manufacturers I think quality has steadily slipped over the last 20+ years. I also love Honda’s and I have owned many. My Vfr750 comes from a time Honda were at their best as they tried to salvage the damage caused by their cam chains and oil issues that nearly ruined them. In the end maintenance and protecting and cleaning can make a huge difference. It’s always good to get a bike with good dealership history, you did well there. Enjoy your great bikes and stay safe out there.
