BMW M140i Remus vs Standard Exhaust - It's worth it!

Just a quick video to compare the standard exhaust on the 2018 BMW M140i against the Remus Cat Back Exhaust. The difference is amazing and the Remus really does liven up the car. This video is heavily based on the car being in Sport/Sport + and driving hard, I will look to do a more general comparison in a future video soon including driving on the motorway in comfort etc as I know a few of you have requested this.

That’s great. I had a M140i a little while back but sold it after a month, owned a mk7 golf r prior to that for 2 years ! But I’m currently on the look out for another 140 now that 3.0L engine is irreplaceable 😂

Personal preference indeed, for me the whole idea of the m140i is that it is under stated both in looks and noise and not like the GTRX turbo loud models out there

Obviously the microphone and my speakers doesn’t do the exhaust justice, i have a standard exhaust which I don’t mind, it sounds nice. However i want a louder exhaust but nothing obnoxious like one of my neighbours scoobie that just sounds like deep shite rumbling, question is; does this exhaust on idle/comfort get on everyones tits ahaha ?

Michael Kennedy on start up it is very obnoxious, however it calms down after about 10 seconds and then is fine. But yeah being transparent it is loud and probably not neighbour friendly when started!

Since you’ve had yours fitted, have you had any ‘Drive train malfunction’ message come up at all? I had one fitted and that message came up twice for me in a 200mile trip. Turn car off and on and it clears...

@weve33 take it in for fault codes diagnostics as it could be literally anything. Even shite petrol can cause it to mis fire and prompt a engine light to come on!

If your car was built after July 18 it could be because it’s probably got one of the new particulate filters added as per new EU rules.

Hey Nick, what camera did you use to get the footage of the exhaust close up when driving ? My go pro can’t pick anything apart from wind noise up and it’s driving me crazy, can’t seem to resolve the issue ! 😭

J55 Daily hi mate, I actually use an external mic and audio recorder for exhaust sound. If you only have the gopro, try mounting it more central to the back of the car to reduce the wind noise and see how that works for you 👍🏻

NFoxtv I'm interested in your actual feedback, having an M140i too. Are you still happy with this Remus exhaust? Remus vs MPE vs Scorpion, not easy to make a choice in the 1k€ cat back category.

Marco R yes I am over the moon with it mate. I can’t comment on the scorpion as I haven’t experienced it but compared to the MPE I prefer it. The main reason being that it still used the exhaust valve unlike the mpe which can then be quite droney especially on the motorway. With the remus I can happily plod along in comfort and the noise not be too intrusive. Things to be mindful of, cold starts are very loud! You can have this mapped out I believe but its all or nothing. You cant select whether its loud or quiet at start up so I have left it loud as its rare I need to be up early so disruption to the neighbours is minimal. In sports plus the noise is amazing, lots of drama and it is exactly what I was craving coming from the S3 which was very quiet. As I say, not had any experience with scorpion but if it were between std, mpe and remus I would go remus every time!

Technically not as there is no EC homologation on the non-res variant as in this video. But its not crazy loud so you should be good.

I'm torn between MPE and Remus. The MPE is probably good enough but the desire to annoy my neighbours each and everyday is proving too hard to resist so leaning towards the Remus 😁

Relentless Pursuit you will be happy with either over standard, but there is no questioning the sound and quality from the remus. Plus you get to keep the valve where as the MPE gets shot. Few people mention there is a bit of a drone on the motorway as a result which I have found fine on the Remus when in comfort 👍🏻

Thanks for info, the car will be my "B Road" weapon and will possibly never go on the motorway. I'd like it to be subtle"ish" in comfort but be ear shattering for my neighbours upon start up in sport - sounds like the Remus is for me

The loud cold start can be mapped out now so it’s quiet on start up to make the car more neighbour friendly. Dervtech and Durham Remaps are offering this option.

Congratulations, you wont be dissapointed! Yes it seems to be the case, although at start up it seems to be quite loud on a cold start. When on the motorway though I do notice a distict difference between sport and comfort with the remus exhaust (probably less noticeable with std). Glad you are enjoying the conent 🙂

Weve33 One thing most people don't realize is that the M140i with the standard exhaust is louder when the flap is closed. On a cold start the flap in the right exhaust pipe is closed so now none of the exhaust gases can go through the final muffler but only out of the left end pipe. After a few moments you can hear the car getting quieter as the flap in the right pipe opens.

John Austin hi John, it is cat back and the exhaust itself is ofcourse not covered but has its own warranty. While a bit of a grey area I have been advised other components should not be affected. I would encourage you confirm with your local dealer before making a decision though 👍🏻
