I own one, same color and all; all I can tell you is that I literally NEVER want to let go of it - I have owned other performance cars but this car is just so special and so rewarding to drive that I cannot imagine ever owning anything else until I'm too old to enjoy it. Just GET one if you can afford it and you'll see what I'm saying.

I'm in the Atlanta area, ordered mine 4 years ago, no need to mod these as they have WAAAAY more power than you can use. Odd thing is, in 4 years I have not seen another one. Have seen 4 or 5 M2's around. Mine has been trouble free and after 4 years I still have a shit eating grin every time I hit the start button. I grew up in the muscle car era and this 240 would smoke 99% of those cars from that time frame. Super happy with it!

Drove both an 2017 M2 and a 2017 M240i. Could afford either, but "settled" for the M240i. Much better engine and adjustable suspension.

Totally agree with your conclusions. As an all round package for the money (certainly here in the UK) it's pretty much unbeatable and, as you quite rightly say, probably one of the best BMWs currently on sale if you like driving. It's the Goldilocks BMW - not too much, not too little - everything is just right and nicely balanced. It can be a relaxing tourer one minute or a hooligan (or hoonigan!) the next.

As an M4 and C63S Coupe owner I have test driven thisM 240i as well with BMW and it offers very very good value for money considering what you get as a driver, rear wheel drive, enough torque, and a pretty good looking ass. If you want a townhouse in Korea buy one, if you want an affordable sports car you can drift around mountain passes, get the M240i.

Well 500+ bhp can be achieved by getting a downpipe and HPFP ( HighPressureFuelPump) that of the toyota gr 3.0L and it ripps the streets. With upgrade turbo up to 650 bhp or even 700 if you want the real kick-in. But with open diff i would say stage 2 450 bhp is enough cuz it is more controlable in terms of acceleration and general control of the car itself!

Hi, Ilike your way of doing the cars review. It's relaxed funny and not intoxicating the viewers with too many specs that can be found everywhere. It's merely a description of what the car feels like from the driving and driver perspective which is most important when paying that price. I actually own this car only is an xDrive version. It's a beautiful car to drive and enjoyable in any situation whether fast or just cruising. I can tell that the way you described the driving sensation and how this car can keeps you smiling when driven it's very accurate. Thanks for such well done reviews. It's a pleasure to watch them.

Mine is a little bipolar. She is a purry pussycat in traffic but a roaring beast on the open roads. The grip and acceleration is just raw power that runs through you. Standing starts at traffic lights, especially against Golf GTI drivers is mindblowing fun and even more fun when you let them catch up. LOL.

@channasnakehead4051
@channasnakehead4051 Жыл бұрын
Well the zf8 is basically soft shifting with a software you can make it feel like a doubleclutch on a audi or porsche that is how good it is. But it depends what you want. I have soft shifts in comfort mode and fast shifts on sport and sport+ . 450 bhp even the newest bmw m3 comp didn't stand a chance from 100 kph to 240kph. The road had to many cars so we couldn't go faster.

It actually has 500nm. The 450nm is the M235i with the N55 engine. This Baby is powered by the new B58 engine. More resilient and more efficient. It's actually faster than the M2 in a straight line. I agree with what Ciro said when he said it never stops accelerating. BMW is still gonna shock a lot of people with this engine. I just hope the upcoming M2 uses it.😍😍
@floridamaddogg
@floridamaddogg 7 жыл бұрын
Jackie Dickson Hi....I respect your opinion, but the M240i is not faster than an M2 in a straight line. A manual M2 gets to 60mph in 4.2-4.3 sec. DCT does it in 4.1, but have seen 4.0 sec. A 240i on its best day is 4.4-4.5sec, and I'm being generous. With that said, the B58 engine is really good. Would rather have the N55 in the M2 because it is highly tweaked using many S55 components and higher boost.

It is pretty direct and sporty cuz you only have 1495 kg without driver. With rwd you can brake perfectly into a corner to make it move like a snake but the only little problem is the open diff. Sometimes it gets tricky to really drift so it is better to buy an aftermarket lsd for absolutly perfect performance.

Hi Mzomhle Matonana, I've had a 240i now for 1mth and have just put 2000kms on the clock. Mine has got the 8spd ZF box, so can't comment on what the manual box is like. The auto box has been absolutely perfect and the changes are damn near as quick as my Golf's DSG dual-clutch box. I used to never be happy with traditional auto torque-converter type boxes, so until the Golf's DSG auto, I'd only had and been happy with manuals. But now I find this 240i ZF box is as quick as the VW DSG, and a dream to use. Much smoother when taking off from standstill and at low speeds, without any of the DSG's inherent hesistancies. In traffic, I'd use the ZF in 'Comfort' mode and it's beautifully smooth and more than quick enough. In traffic, 'Sport' and 'Sport+' modes are too snappy and edgy, but once going, these two quicker modes are brilliant. Take a test drive, you won't be disappointed.
@mzomhlematonana8673
@mzomhlematonana8673 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Teddy Spot, Thanks for reply. I have an old 135 dct and I love it. In sport the changes are brutal but in normal driving it's pretty smooth. The only problem I have with it is a slight lag when you taking of at the robot or rolling start when you put your foot hard down. I'm not sure how the BMW dct compares to the golf don't think that's a fare comparison, I'm just wondering how it compares to the ZF box.
@2Spot8
@2Spot8 7 жыл бұрын
I've found the ZF in comfort has slight lag when I put the boot in from standstill or rolling start. So, I'll change to sport or sport+ if I'm planning to hammer it, and these two modes will respond with full power the instant I mash the pedal. The B58 loves to rev so much I find it difficult to change in time manually if I'm using the steering wheel paddles while attacking turns under full power. When that happens, I chicken out and just go full automatic :)

@germaineio

Was considering this but didn't quite communicate with me the way a BRZ can but I guess thats what happens when you go "luxury", good car, don't get wrong. Plus the dimensions are a little off, not quite low and aggressive as I'd like. I know the M2 exists but that in my opinion is even less car for money than the M240i, it's more narrow-minded in its mission unlike the M240i

GERMAINE but the brz is so embarrassingly slow.. I drove my friends scion frz and fell asleep at full throttle. Sure it handles well in the corners but it gets old pretty quickly driving it in traffic and having to rev the shit to the sky just to overtake a Camry. Who I'm sure would have beaten me if it cared to. Yeah I'll pass on the slowRZ.
@germaineio
@germaineio 7 жыл бұрын
LegendInThaMakin slow - yes, is it so slow that it matters to most people - no. I owned one for 1.5 years and decided to move on to the Golf R, which I'm sure everyone agrees is a decently quick car especially compared with the BRZ. I also test drove a 2 series and a 4 series for about 30-45 minutes each. What I've experienced from all the Germans is a nice ride, good power, and really good interior. But none of them communicated like the BRZ did. In the BRZ day to day traffic was fun, and you always felt involved. With the others you're more just an individual within a capsule that takes you from place to place. The story changes a little when you start really pushing them but by that stage you're at 2 times the speed limit...

500nm not 450nm Oh and that’s on the wheels... So in reality it’s actually 280kw and 600nm on the fly.. Dyno figures vary from 250 to 270wkw and 500wnm..

On the wheels at 250kw and 500nm?? Are you sure? That’s usually what BMW quote at flywheel though (as shown in the brochure and engine spec)

From the beginning of the car production until now there has never been a choice of how to propel the car. The metrics to purchase a car was what was the value of the car.. the functionality of the car.. the class of the car maker, speed, comfort, quality of finish.. and many others that we use to purchase a car. By these old standard BMW, Mercedes, Audi and others excelled. They were and probably still are the top machines that give the customer what they want. However, electric cars do not meet this metrics... there is no reason to spend $150,000 on a Tesla S or X.. the finish is not there, the name brand is not there yet.. however they are still selling many vehicles...WHY.. why do ordinary people save all they have to purchase a Tesla .. that by old metrics is only worth about $60,000? Are Tesla people stupid.. the stock market can not figure out why Tesla stock is so high.. by their metrics it should be a penny stock. My friends people who are paying $150,000 are paying to change the world. It no longer matters what the car can do for you.. this car is better at this or that..Tesla owners say "who cares" There are some disadvantages to owning a Tesla or any electric... traveling is more difficult, takes long to charge than to fill a tank of gas.. but this is a very small price to pay for what we get to accomplish. The comment about ISSIS is interesting because ISSIS earns its money from the oil wells and refinery that it has stolen. ISSIS earns 50million a month.. and with money they have power. I live in Ontario Canada.. the Eastern side of Canada imports all of its oil from Saudi Arabia to the amount of 10.6 Billion a year. When I buy my electricity my money stays local to my power grid. I am not funding any terror organization that wants us dead. We can go on about the environment..Gas cars use more electricity per mile than electric cars do.. because oil is boiled to get the gas, diesel and other components of oil.. this boiling uses a huge amount of electricity... so any argument about coal power plants are over. Lithiium battery production takes next to nothing to build.. especially Tesla .. the whole factory is solar powered. Lithium is not a rare earth metal like so many like to post. When people buy a car for themselves they lose out on being part of a greater purpose.. and if you can't understand this logic.. hopefully your kids will.

Great, honest, insightful review from CARs.co.za, so much better than the SA car magazines at doing car reviews and videos, this is not their game but Cars.co,.za excels at this reminds me of Chris Harris vids or EVO magazine. keep it up!I love my M135i, performance bargain with loads of Fun!!, I have Golf 7 R that is a blast and a qtr mile weapon but the M135i is the car for having fun and is not slow by any means...would love a m140i next!
