Nice E36 mate, although I won't put Purflux filters in the S50.. I've once blown my engine up because the filter was a little too tall, resulting in a restricted oil flow, and got severe rod knock because of that. Take a MANN filter, or Bosch (although that is bad quality also)

Strange. Maybe you didn't get the proper filter for your application, or the oil starvation is not linked to the filter. It's for sure a premium brand, they are the original Mercedes-Benz supplier for oil fitlers. I guess in the end it's also down to personal preferences, but if you want to be on the 'safe' side, it's better to stick with the orignal BMW supplier then. (Mahle)

@@mrnoname35 Very true, it's really a preference and experience thing :) For my personal car, i've been running 5w40 Castrol with MANN filters, doing fine for ages. But, there will be an engine swap in the future (again)

Hi! You will find a lot of contradicting informations on Google about this. Castrol 10w60 was first introduced to cope with vanos and rod bearings wear in the E39/E46, and the E36 suffers from the same symptoms, so a lot of enthusiasts are using this oil in their M3 E36 too. I have seen two oil pans from track oriented M3, one where only 5w40 was used, the other only 10w60. Despite having the same flush intervals, the oil was burnt in the first engine and internals looked dirty. The second engine was very clean, and suffered obviously less from the heat. So I would personally stick with the 10W60.

Thanks for the advice 👍

don't use the Castrol if you don't want to see your rods flying out :) Xado 10W-60, believe me. My "castrol" engines bearings looked like shit when we changed it, my friends "xado" M3 bearing were mint, mine had cca 200tkm his had a bit above 200tkm, we both bought it in 2009, usage is the same, 1trackday/year....Castrol was good 20years ago, not today.

Hi! The rod bearings topic is extensively covered in a lot of forums, I'm sure you can find all the informations easily on Google. I would recommend to use OEM bearings, and ARP rod bolts.. Simply! Did this a few years ago on mine for peace of mind.

@@altunmammedli964 There is no need for aftermarket bearings, OEM parts are strong with good lifetime. The S50B32 has a better lubrification system (dual pick up oil pump) compared to the 3.0 version, and you will not find a lot examples of damaged bearings on this engine on forums. It usually happens on the S50B30. Replaced mine at 150 000km, absolutely no sign of damage or coming failure. I will would personally stick with oem bearings, and upgraded ARP rod bolts.
