Great tutorial for not needed service. The new oil will look exactly the same within few hundred miles.

How often do you recommend replacing DCT fluid?

Hi guys, i have a 135 2011 w/ the DCT transmission and lately i've been getting a transmission error code 0x5A53. Could replacing the fluid fix this code?

Hey guys. I did this job on my E92 335is with the same DCT, but with the stock shallow transmission pan. There is a fill procedure in ISTA that you need to run while filling the DCT up with fluid. This procedure shifts some things around in the transmission and lets you get an extra liter or 2 of oil in, and avoids the rough shifts you might experience if you just drain & fill. Look at 6:18 in the video and see how much cold fluid is draining out just by opening the fill plug. There is no way you can fill that much fluid inside the transmission while it is level. The ISTA procedure allows you to get that extra fluid in.

Hi Marco, thanks for the advice. By any chance do yo know where can i buy ISTA?
@THELOF128 күн бұрын
Yeah, no idea why they didn't do that, they have an autel which should have allowed them to do it? This kinda of a DYI but if you want to do it right you need to use ISTA.
@THELOF128 күн бұрын
@@Termo128 Just search online for BMW ISTA.
@zildog17 күн бұрын
The fact he didn't use ISTA is crazy. The OBDII software literally "does it for you" but that program is typically available to BMW certified shops only and bootleggers are the only other way if you want to DIY. Not doing this, where ISTA prompts you to cycle through the gears as it registers information and brings the box up to temp, is absolutely crucial. From there, you actually need to add another couple of liters of fluid to the casing. This is really reckless of them not to mention or show that they did that... or even mention it. I have a 2016 M2 and I am NOT screwing with the calibration and the servicing of the Getrag when the time comes.

Hello, thank you for sharing the post, usefull You mentioned that you used 6,5 litres of oil, but the transmission circuit is projected for 8,5 litres (DCT+cooler+pipes). Did you changed all the oil or only the amount in DCT and the rest (1,5 litre) in pipes and cooler you left there? Thanks
@THELOF128 күн бұрын
They didn't use ISTA or perhaps the autel device is not able to activate the clutches in the TCU which would allow for more fluid.
@richardbielicky360328 күн бұрын
@@THELOF1 OK, but the oil circulation is not managet with ISTA but manually, you keep RPM at 2000 for 1 min during a suitable oil temperature (30-40C). If you want to get out all the old oil you have to also drain the filter and tubes out. It seems no one care of it. 😇

That fall line pan is great. I got almost an extra liter in. I ended up using all 7 and needing a little more because I spilled a little and accounting for the overflow after the heated fill. DIY at home on quickjacks, you can use a cement mixing pan to catch and undo all of the screws on the pan except for the front or back to let it sag down at an angle. That lets the fluid drain out in only one direction and not all over yourself.
