This is our brief video of BMW's brilliant V8 engined E39 M5. Filmed some 21 years ago it was one of the official BMW test cars at the time, yet despite many competent successors this one still remains a favourite amongst BMW fans. It is good even to this day, and whilst this video isn't a typical road test review, just driving the E39 with attitude shows its character and brute power. The noise alone is enough to excite, combine that with the speed, power, and handling and you have what is in our view, one of the very best M5s' to bear the name.
