I finally bought one in September after 7 years of desperately wanting one. It didn’t meet my expectations. It broke them. It’s one of the most rewarding car experiences I’ve ever had. The car isn’t perfect, and that’s it’s charm. You come to crave it’s flaws. It delivers super car tactility and emotions. It’s beyond visceral. At the top end it sends your heart into a rapid-fire pump. Treat it like a super car, maintain it like a super car, take care of it like a super car, and it’ll take care of you. I’ll never sell it. Your review sums up my own experience with my dad's E60 M5 W/ SMG tranny. Same exterior, but different interior of black leather seats, alcantara fabric, and wood trim. Transmission is a little sluggish when you are driving it slowly, but when you get the engine oil heated enough to lubricate the engine for high speeds (and the M mode) the car is wonderful. Mileage is terrible obviously but it is a fun car. Planning to buy it off from him in the future as it is only 27k miles, but torn to use it for fun vs. letting it in appreciate in value. If I am correct, the specific F1 engine this V10 was based off was the Williams Racing-BMW P84/85 3L V10 used in the FW26 & FW27 cars which could rev higher due to its smaller displacement. Drivers included Juan Pablo Montoya, Ralf Schumacher, Mark Webber, and test driven Sebastian Vettel before his Red Bull dominance. Useless info? Maybe, but I like to know that the S85 engine had roots in competitive motosport.

@@stevenross-watt8640 True, for sports cars and drivers engagement a manual is preferable. The 7 gears of the SMG variant suited the car better because of the gearing. But how many people can claim they drive a 8500 rpm NA V10 manual in a 4 door family sedan? Just nuts man

I have never driven a stock E60 M5, but looking at those revs and gear and speed, I just realized how freaking faster mine is, especially 2nd and 3rd gear, mine just FLIES. The fun part is, that the Supercharger ECU tune DELTES the speed limited ;) (my vmax is 286km/h so far but I have seen people going past 330km/h!!) This car literally has 2 characters, one is below 5000rpm and second is after 5000rpm, two completely different cars! I daily drive it and when you do 100km/h for commute it is surprisingly good for gas at around 13L/100km. Also, I also see the same view as you when I drive, and looking at the rear view mirror in white color is so freaking weird for me LOL.
