Good work Nathan. There is something to be said for keeping these fire-breathing monsters on the road. This is similar to what our Air Force does with their birds like the B2 Lancer and B-52's. It takes maintenance and dedication to keep them flying.

10W60? Why such a wide range of oil temp needed? I was thinking about going that direction because my summers are over 100F May-Sept. BMW manual says 5W30 or 5W40 all climates. Nothing has seized to date.

Hello Nathan I wonder who put the wrong grade oil in ? Owner or garage ? Really enjoy your S85 videos 👍
@paperandmedals83162 жыл бұрын
Stripped oil pan bolt, likely the owner changing his own oil. You really need to crank down on an oily bolt over multiple oil changes to round out that hex. That says the same person was changing the oil. Probably an owner.

Do you think the lower viscosity oil helped the rod bearings but trashed the vanos pump gear?

@@NathansBMWWorkshop thank you cause I’m wondering if that’s at least part of the reason why bmw specs such a heavy oil. I mean gear oil is very heavy.

i got one question which has made me curious, I own 2008 m3 with 89,000 miles on it. I’ve been owning it since the past 3 months and the car’s been great so far. 10w60 always was used in this car, and the rod bearings are stock… but Recently since 2 weeks I’ve changed from 10w60 to 0w40 and the car has been running better. I did it because my mechanic recommended it and said it’s the best for the s65 and s85 in the place I live. I asked him if I still have to do the rod bearing change cuz 0w40 is a thinner oil unlike 10w60, and he told me there is no need. So just out of curiosity I wanted to ask here, do I need to do rod bearings (which have wear let’s assume, don’t know how they look) even if I changed to thinner oil? I’ve read online about many s65 and s85 owners changing to 0w40 and saying it’s better than 10w60, rod bearing change here is very expensive and I can’t afford to do it right now.. He also made great point, he mentioned how lambo gallardo for example or Ferrari 430 when they were released, the oil spec was 0w40 and not 10w60, so how come s65 and s85 need 10w60? It’s too thick

something caused the vanos pump race to fail for it to not spin like that, that part was never updated, plus the gears were changed early in 06 if you check realoem
