Great Video, I'm going to try this on my E39 540. I live in Texas and on the occasional time where it gets cold outside the engine at cold start with vary its RPM at idle until it warms up after a few minutes. I suspect that air is getting past the inlet gaskets.

I think this may only work on gaskets that are still pliable. On my car E38 M62b44, they (gaskets and compression washers) basically turned to plastic and the manifold gaskets had cracks everywhere.

Well, it will be if it's the manifold that's leaking. There's a few other areas for vacuum leaks. But make sure you have one first using this method: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mWLQoml8odGjb80

Hey Timm...love the channel...it has provided some very useful tips that I have been able to apply to my 2001 E39 540i M sport.......I do have a couple of questions relating to this manifold gasket leak fix.... 1. Do you re tighten the hollow fixings until they bottom out, or is there a torque setting that should be used, and secondly my issue may not be related to the manifold gaskets leaking but I have tried a lot of things to try and fix it. The engine starts and idles fine and accelerates very well, but what it does do is hunt or surge when you have just a small amount of throttle applied. Codes say missfire on bank B, but the problem does not seem to be evident at any other stage of driving other than light throttle......very frustrating as I have replaced coils, plugs, airflow meter, fuel filters, crank case ventilator (rear of intake manifold)...cleared any oil residue in the plug ports......am wondering if as other's have suggested, it could be injector seal leaking, but I have never had them out myself.......I welcome any thoughts you may have on this......I'm keen to try and try the washer method as it is simple and cheap to do, and I hope may well solve the problems I have....cheers Dale M ( Aus )
@TimmsBMWRepairsandInformation3 жыл бұрын
Hello Dale, firstly, every M60, M62 and M62TUB I have owned does the hunting revs thing when the throttle is slowly pushed past the idle (you have to do it quite slowly), so don't worry about that! Yes, when the nuts are tightened on the hollow fixing I put just a pinch on them, nothing more than a handful of N/M, tightening them any further makes no difference!

Hi Timm, stumbled across your post while looking for specific compression rubber gromets/washers. Couple of questions hoping you can help with. On the inlet manifold spacer, in particular the rubber compression washer , would you say the internal diameter hole is around 10mm? and the wider part be around 24/25mm external diameter. Lastly would you know where in the UK I could buy just the rubber gromets .. cheers in advance.

purchased fixer 530i with m60b30 engine. drive it home but immediately started cleaning the car. under the intake manifold had became home for many rats/mice and upon blasting the leaves out with an air hose i cracked the already brittle knock sensors. next day after some rest we pull the manifold off and did all we thought would’ve been necessary for maintenance; new knock sensors, hosing, new gaskets, and a new throttle body. after reassembling we started the car and immediately there was a problem. we had bought a 540 throttle body, so we swapped it out, tried it out again and low and behold the problem was…better. but now we have a misfire that wasn’t there prior. we cleaned the coil packs/spark plugs but never replaced either. it’s one of those situations where i’ve spent a lot of time trying to get a result and i’m still scratching my head. hoping spark is all the issue is. anyone above me have an idea what could be happening here??

Best way forward is to use INPA as I show in another video to check the adaptation value and the smoothness values of each cylinder - that will find any vacuum leak.

Hi TImm When removing oil filler cap should there be any vacum suction and engine rpm change?
@TimmsBMWRepairsandInformation4 жыл бұрын
Yes, removing the oil filler cap allows un-metered air into the manifold and that will affect the idle speed.

Dear Tim. I had a similar problem on my 840Ci (M62) but out of this other issues developed after replacing the crankshaft vent and the biggest one I face is fuel leaks from the injectors. As good measure I removed the injectors and fitted new o-rings but now after 6-times taking things apart and fixing them back, still 3 are leaking at the top. Do you have any suggestion on how best to tackle this problem? Appreciate, thanks.
@Michaelbor9113 жыл бұрын
Hi, from my perpective of m60 e32 if you are at the step to replacing those gaskets kit, you should use for connection and assembli parts a little film of victor reinz silicone. First as silicone is lubricating so during screwing is slides and get into perfect final poition. Second advantage is that after one day of drying (do not lauch engine immediatelly after the assembly) this silicone is for me about 50 percent better insulation with higher connection area .

Hi Timm, I'm Philippe from France and I have a question regarding my car. I have a 840i from 1994 and for the cold start, the engine is not turning right. It seems that there is too much fuel. After few minutes, the engine is checking less but it is not running as it should do. The coils and sparks are brand new. Injector not but have been cleaned. The car have been stopped for more than three years. So, if you have any idae , please let me know. And keep going! It is a very good channel and I try to improve my english. Best regards
@TimmsBMWRepairsandInformation3 жыл бұрын
Hello Philippe, good to hear from you. Long cranking from cold usually means the fuel pressure has been lost. The fuel pressure should stay at around 2-Bar for weeks - if it drops then the engine is hard to start. The problem is usually the one-way valve in the fuel pump OR at the fuel pressure regulator on the back of the fuel rail. The way forward is to get a cheap kit from Ebay with a 'T' piece to measure the pressure.

Hello Alvin, if you are talking about the petrol supply, the pressure is retained between the fuel rail (injectors closed) and the fuel regulator/filter/pump unit in the tank.
