BMW Misfire Diagnostics.. It’s Not What You May Be Thinking!!

This was a good one! 2015 BMW 328i. Vehicle came in with a dead misfire. Another shop had just worked on it and warrantied out a coil they had previously replaced. It was exploded when they replaced it. However, after they performed repair it still was misfiring. In this video Andrew will walk you through our diagnostic procedure to pin point the root cause of this issue. Most of our videos are methodical and we take our time. And this is no different here. Great video. I was wonder arent those computers the ones with the connectors can only be unhooked 3 times? If im not mistaken it messes with the pin drag and the connectors will need to be repinned. I cant remember off the top of my head.

I suspect pins on the PCM are arranged to reduce interference to each other. Just don't quote me on that.

Everyone has a tablet and there are laptops around the shop. Whatever the tech is comfortable with we get. IPads mainly but some Android tablets.

Question about relative compression test, what is the difference between the way you did it with an amp clamp and using a pressure transducer on one of the cylinders?

You may already know this answer by now but with a relative compression test (RC) you can get a somewhat detailed view of each cylinder on the car. A pressure transducer is put into one cylinder and you can only see what that one cylinder is doing and not the others. This also gives you a very detailed view of that one cylinder. Basically if the RC test wouldve shown a weak cylinder which alot of times is a lower peak you couldve stuck your pressure transducer in that cylinder and see a more detailed view of it. Hope that helps

@@zekzygaming5128 when testing powers and grounds lots use a larger bulb than a regular test like to load the power and ground circuit with computer disconnected. You tested powers with the computer connected so guess you depended on the computer as a greater load.

Throttle doesn't need to be pressed vehicle has valvetronic ..

So the default position of the throttle is open during cranking? I already know the throttle is largely a failsafe for valvetronic but can't remember when it'll be closed when the valvetronic is NOT failing.

@@abdul-kabiralegbe5660 Throtle motor is non functional till approximately 1500 rpm or so if I am recalling correctly ALL idle speed is controlled strictly from the valvetronic this leaves all most zero vacuum in manifold also affected by disa valve control of intake runner control took me a while to comprehend the theory...even though I worked on the product for 38 years..but as I stated prior your presentation is excellent and well organized
