Great video... I was able to re-key my seat lock (BMW F850)... the motorcycle is keyless and the seat lock mechanism is so cheap and badly design... this video help me solve the problem (broken blade on the flip key) re-keying the lock with a set of keys I had from a top box. I was able to carefully remove the cap and re-install it.

This was exactly what my problem was - until I found this. Just could not find the next video in sequence.

My last leaf that keeps the cylinder in place is gone and the cylinder pulls out. How do fix this last leaf problem without tearing the bag apart to find it? Can I buy the single locking leaf?

It’s “missing a leaf” for a very important reason . Do tell everyone to save them the agony !

There is a way , but it's not really the correct way when working on other people's machines. I worked at a dealership for 13yr and we seldom used the "commando" method. The real way to do it is to buy a new lock cylinder kit . The only cylinders that are pinned are the ones that come with the bike when new (saddlebags included with the bike) or that the dealer orders from BMW for say a topcase by VIN instead of keeping the kits in stock (as they should). The cap will not reseat correctly without the proper tooling. As your example shows, a bent , dented cap may be acceptable to some people but not many.

Hi..I'm interested in how you took the cylinder out of the plastic case. Good video, too bad it's not shown ...

Dude, if you know of a way to re-key a lock without taking the cap off, please share it - SuperMechanic

You can’t ! And please show a picture of the “after” when you replace the cap. Yes the big bag factory buying a new HQ in germany with the profits of the lock cylinders sold over time !

please do not pry the cap off your lock . you will never get it to properly seat again . just because you have found a way does not mean you should . I have known about this for 15 years and refrain from telling people how to damage their lock
