The correct procedure as published by BMW is fill the reservoir until coolant runs out the bleed screw, then fully close the screw and reservoir cap, then run the water pump. So you must have your cap on absolutely not cap off It will work but is not the optimal procedure for the n52 Problem in the futur could be 2e83 code that means the pump run dry and will fail quickly This kind of electric pump have sensible impellers and hates air bubble that is why many people have failed pump few time after installation

George liked it so you're prob right, but you could definitely have been wrong. It's hard to tell what the slope of that driveway is... probably slopes down to road (in which case you're right), but if the slope is away from the street then the chocks would be correctly placed. Unless a car is just gonna go rolling uphill.

George Nice Work but you might want to make sure people understand not to attempt to drain with system pressurized. You don't want to accidentally give multiple people a trip to the emergency room from 3rd degree burns. Maybe I missed your m]ention for precaution, but it would be worth repeating.

I always enjoy your detailed videos - especially the anal ones like this! Thanks. Just a word of caution though and that is that anti-freeze also increases the boiling point of the coolant quite significantly and so if you run on pure or nearly pure water of any kind then your cooling system will experience a higher pressure if the usual operating temperature is more than 100 degrees C, which is the case for many BMW's (not necessarily yours though). I learnt this to my cost in my 2005 760li because even in my advanced years I had no idea of this property of anti-freeze used in cars.

It only recently started making this rattling noise when accelerating. Hello George Austers! Your videos are very good and of great help to those who are professional or not. I want to record my thanks to your noble person. Now let's get to the topic of your video. On my BMW M5 E60 LCI 530i - (N52B30A) 2008/9 I had to change it due to the time of use. It was still the original (Tubo flexível culassa/termóstato - 11537544638). At the moment there was no substitute and import would take time. What did I do? I took a connection and blue PPR tube (Random Polypropylene Copolymer), which is used in compressed air systems and made it similar to the original. I'm using it even today, and the original that arrived I left it as a reserve. It was very good and met the characteristics of use. It's been in use for over 6 months now. Big hug from Brazil.

I disagree with warming the engine to operating temp then draining it and filling with cold water and running it again and again until the water is clear. Several reasons, 1) not very safe, 2) thermal shock, the engine block retains heat and them you add cold water, bad. 3) the water pump relies on the coolant to lubricate the seals and impeller so no coolant=no lubricant=reduced life of pump, 4) you were very lucky not to get a massive airlock in the system which could have lead to head gasket failure or worse. Don't change your coolant this way.
@seanpaul3050

I agree. This method is just wrong on many levels. Can’t be bothered to go through all the reasons why.
@GeorgeAusters
@GeorgeAusters 2 жыл бұрын
I've used this method for years - never ever had an issue. When you're filling with cold water, you're filling the radiator - not the engine
@onecookieboy
@onecookieboy 2 жыл бұрын
@@GeorgeAusters I have owned an E91 with the N52 engine for 4 years now, and that is not how to change the coolant, the best way to drain the cooling system is to remove the hoses from the water pump, that almost completely drains the cooling system, I measured how much I got out, just under 9 litres, so a bit fiddly but not as risky. When you drain the radiator you are most likely draining the cylinder head as well given that the thermostat is down by the water pump so the chances of getting a big airlock in the head are high. I would say that you were lucky that you didn't damage the engine.
@JosePalacio12

@@onecookieboy so just remove hoses from water pump and thats it?? I had to replace my radiator so all that is removed how would you suggest i move foward for no airlock since you are saying to just remove hoses?? Im curious bc i dont want to ruin car.
@onecookieboy
@onecookieboy 2 жыл бұрын
@@JosePalacio12 Put everything together and fill as much as possible at the header tank. The E9x cars have an electric water pump and thermostat that has a bleed function. This is how it works. Put heater on full hot and adjust the heater fan to its lowest speed, have the ignition in the run position but don't start the engine, hold accelerator pedal fully down for 10 seconds and release, this starts the bleeding sequence, you should hear the pump running and there will be gurgling noises and the pump will stop and start a few times. After that, top off to the correct level, job done.
