Love the n52 content. In my opinion it is one of the best and most reliable BMW in-line 6 engines.

Mine was still intact at 350,000km but I replaced it as preventative maintenance, and it was very brittle so I'm glad I did. There's a bit of a cleaner way to do it. using some plastic hose "clamp pliers" you can pinch off the hose and help avoid getting any debris into the hose. Using channel locks, squeeze the single use clamp thats on the hose to crack the flange. Slide off the single use clamp, pull out any remaining bits of the old flange, and proceed to install the new parts. No need to cut the hose or clamp.

Yeah I know I was going to do that but I thought the hose is way long enough to reach even if you just snip a piece off which is what I did and to be fair it’s been over 2 weeks now and it’s been fine driving it with no issue or leaks so I suppose it worked out for me I mean if I had to replace the hose that’s a easy job anyway 😅

You have an airlock. that is why it drains so slowly. You need to open the valve in the top radiator hose as well.

Dr. Dean, Ill tell you my experience replacing those flanges. The first 328 I replaced it on, had 130,000 miles. It broke off and crumbled in pieces. The 2nd 328 had 90,000 and the same thing happened with that one. On my 528 with 235,000 miles was a different story. It came out in 1 piece. I was in shock and it made me feel as if 5 series got better parts from the factory. I dont know what your take is but I think your car got plastics from my same batch!!!

Out of curiosity (not meant to be criticai) why would you not change the hose as well? Again, just curious as you know best!

Oddly enough when I first got my car i was doing the OFHG and replaced the flange with a metal one about two years ago but recently it’s started leaking coolant from the flange-engine joint. The only other time I had an issue like this was when a I had a non-mann oil filter that collapsed and had oil seeping out the cap and what looked like the ofhg too. Its since been replaced but wondering if high coolant pressure is causing leak

Can HOAT coolant be used in the n52 engine?

Off topic but I've been wondering if there's a way to change the interior light timer. I have a 2017 G30 5series and I hate it when the interior light stays on for 10 seconds or so when I switch off the engine. Especially when I park my car in the parking lot of the train station in the morning, and it's still dark. I'm always early so I stay in the car for another 10 minutes or so. But I hate it that the interior light stays on so long. (And please don't tell me I should leave home 8 minutes later... 🙂).

Had to change my flange on my 2010 328i, which only have 85,000. It was worn out and cracked but i think i had other high temperature issues with the cooling system that contributed to it's failure.

Thanks for the video 👍🏻 A view months ago i had a leak on the radiator. The reason was that there was a lot of tree leaves between the cooling radiator and the airco radiator and that gives oxidation on the aluminium. This is on my 2005 E60 525i,I don’t know or its the same on your E63? To bad i can’t put a picture over here from the mess what i pulled out 😮

Did you have to remove the radiator to remove the leaves... I have exactly the same issue.

@@siphodube7928yes,the radiator was leaking,so i had to replace it. I think you can blow with a compressor or with watercleaner to clean it.

Are you making an active effort to seem more pleasant or is it just the lighting or something? I'm watching regardless.
@BMWDoctor
@BMWDoctor Жыл бұрын
Both 😄 lighting is different now as I’m using proper lighting for the engine area and internals and also adjusting my ISO when needed. And I’m also trying to be more relatable to everyone not so angry I’m over that side.

Talking of S85 I have more to do on that I need to change my clutch and flywheel just because I want to get it done as it’s the only thing I ain’t done 😅 so that’s gonna be coming up real soon.

@BMW Doctor It's funny that you say that because I just did my clutch and flywheel, slave cyl and all the other parts. It hurt $ because the flywheel costs more than most clutch jobs, but it was worth it!

just replaced this on an N55 with ~70k miles, it broke more when I took it off, but I could tell that it was failing and already leaking.

Mine cracked at 140,000 on N53 around the base and no longer held flush to engine. I suspect however someone may have lent on it while changing the oil filter. Replacing to an Al one. Anyone reading this the common consensus is 10nm torque for the 10 mm bolts; don't overtighten Al.

Mine let go while driving at 170k miles. I bought the aluminum replacement for $17 dollars. 15 minutes later it was fixed.

Seems to be americans that have more problems with these cars. Maybe its the more extreme temperature ranges. Below 0 in winter and above 30 in summer.

Thanks for the video, but I don't see why it is SO hard for you to believe that these things fail on OTHER people's cars. They do, trust me.....
