BMW N52 small DISA valve replacement without removing the intake manifold which is a very easy DIY task to complete at home. The DISA valve may be the cause to your rough running and rough idle problems on your N52 engine. This small DISA valve needs to be replaced when it is stuck or when it comes loose. This covers the E90 E60 E82 330i 530i 130i 328i 528i 128i and other models. The part number for this is: BMW OEM 11617560538

Thanks, this is really interesting to know that you can somewhat easily check/change your DISA valves with less hassle (though I think it could be the right time to change all seals and the PCV system in the meantime).

excellent video!!! thank you very much for your help!! i replaced both disas, the voltage regulator, and cleaned the throttle body on my 2008 x5 3.0si using this method. but now I have a code (2A16 DMTL, superfine leak). I must say that the process is not as simple as it seems, but with patience you will have favorable results. With the small disa I found a hose (I think it's from the PCV system heater) that goes between the block and the intake manifold all the way to the alternator. and that makes the job a little risky when it comes to having to pry that hard plastic tube to be able to remove the small disa from the intake manifold. maybe I managed to crack it and that's why now I have that code. (I hope to find a video on how to replace that). At the end, it is not a lie that the work is done in a fraction of the time compared to having to disassemble the entire intake, but since everything has a risk, this is not the exception. Finally, I want to mention that if you disassemble the throttle body, it is not necessary to disconnect it (I did not do it because I didn't know if it had to be reprogrammed, which I do not have how to do). you just need to put it aside safely and out of the way. so there's no risk that the computer won't accept it, or anything that might happen that I don't know about when reinstall it. good luck. and again to george, thanks for your videos, they are very helpful. I mean it.

This right here is the best idea you've ever had, my friend! Pure genius. Everywhere else insists manifold removal is the only way and I don't ever want to take that thing off again.. The starter motor required it but the problems start when trying to reconnect the last couple of PCV hoses. Suffice to say it had to come off twice to fix the large vacuum leak that resulted from me failing to fully seat the last hose to the crankcase at the PCV end. It was impossible to reach without starting again. Gutted
@k2akra

Actually the last crankcase pcv hose is reachable from under the car. Mine was noty fully plugged to the valve cover. With a help of long screwdriver I plugged it in from under the car.

Both DISA valve videos are excellent! I've just ordered a replacement large disa (Vaico because it was available locally, hope okay 😬) I understand the large disa gets the most use, so more prone to wear compared to the small. Do you concur? My car has done 140,000 km. Keep up the good work, missing the E60! 🙂

Hello Georges, Thank you again for this video, I would gladly give a few € but I fear the scam with VISA. My BMW Z4 E89 2009 23Sdrive 2.5l 6 cylinder 200.000Km does not require dismantling the alternator, the small DISA goes through the rear of the engine. There are just a few difficulties with the vacuum hose. The engine was running badly at idle and meows made me think of the belt for a long time, but no, it was the 2 DISAs. Good road to all

I’m this regard I even have to change the valve cover gasket 😅I have so many ideas :) e.g. VANOS solenoid check valve -> very difficult to get there I have to change the hydraulic lifters as well as I have always the ticking which is disappearing with high speed but is always coming whenever I‘m driving short distance And much more :) I love this engine... I want to keep it as long as possible! I also want to try out the clean pistons with Toralin to reduce oil consumption

NOOOO..... I just got up to 11:20 on the job, and on the 2008 E92 - N51 I definitely need to remove a CCV pipe that's in the way of pulling the Disa valve out, under the manifold. I can reach the near end to remove it, but not the back end... I'm afraid to try to flex that thing. I could have seen that after removing the alternator, but I didn't look too closely with a light. UPDATE: I got it! Just removed the front end of the pipe, and could push it aside just enough!

@@chadriddle3517 Have finally got around to doing this, the video was invaluable. 2AA9 code seems to be gone initially, although too early to be certain. Also, the idle seems better, but again it's early days. Overall not too bad a job. @@GeorgeAusters I meant the long bolt from the small disa. I've watched both videosmultiple times, it has helped a lot. I was able to find another new Zealand guy who said it goes to the bottom hole. I am done for the day, hope to start the car tomorrow in hopes that there's no leaks.

Honestly, the fuel rail is impeding the ability to take the disa out enough to pull it out through the front

Ok, not the fuel rail, but a ribbed tube of some sort is preventing me from being able to get it out far enough

@@andrewharris6942 Done this job last week. Actualy, there is a ribbed tube from CCV blocking DISA from proper removal. George forgot to mention that, but I´ve just pulled it away and DISA was free. Very good video tough.
