BMW OBD 2 Port Not Working Fix No Communication Fix E90

Looks like the reader is a Launch Creader Elite specifically for BMW/Mini. It’s going for $129 on eBay new with quick shipping. Not bad. It even lets you program new $30 key fobs. Even if all keys are missing. Pretty sweet considering the cost to tow a car to the dealer or have a key fob made for $300+.

I got my 07 328, e90 no dash or obd gunna replace this and hopefully it’s fixed

On my BMW 120D E87 2007, the Instrument Cluster and OBD2 port are on the same fuse (F58). However on my car, OBD2 is down but Instrument cluster is working, therefore fuse not problem. Could be for you though..??..??

mine randomly lost obd connection (my scanner seemed to not connect with the ecu)and became a crank no start. one thing l noticed there was no spark. after disconnecting and reconnecting ecu sockets and spraying contact cleaner numerous times. obd connection was restored and when l tried to start it it started right up. what is happening to my bmw e90?????

It could be water getting into the ecu box then into the ecu and coroding the contacts. When I was reading the forums trying to find my problem, a few people said they found corrosion on either the ecu contact or the socket that connects to it.

@@Winstonzm can oil cause that, coz there was traces of oil

@@alistuslarter6787 I'm not sure how oil would get in there because the box the ecu is in is supposed to be sealed. Maybe the cover on the box wasn't properly closed.

No. It was running fine. No check engine light. Just couldn’t communicate through the obd port

@@Winstonzm mines powers up the scanner runs and drives but can’t communicate with the dme start and stop light stay illuminated like it doesn’t go into sleep mode when locking the doors also I can’t get acc mode to stay on

@@demon-mt9ol could be jbe related since the jbe also communicates to the rest of the car not just the dme

My battery(ies) has(ve) been draining to the point where a newly installed starter motor's solenoid stuck closed consequently killing the starter motor.....Then, after replacing starter motor, tried recharging newish BMW bought battery (6 months old) and reconnecting. Managed to clear fault codes using Bimmer Tool through OBD2. Tried starting and nothing but click click click and an unsettling sound from driver side hidden module. (CAS? Footwell?) Plugged Bimmertool in and no communication with ECU. Battery fried; Bought a new battery (Bosch) from ECParts, & car started fine but then battery dead within three days. Took to auto electrician yesterday and they found nothing wrong other than they also could not connect with ECU using their scan tool, so booked in to Bolton Motor Works for closer look. But how can they know where to look without an OBD connection??? Aaaargh .... Lol
