At the time I didn't like it's looks, but compared to insect like junk that appeared this century (from all manufacturers)the R1200c is classy looking!

It was ahead of its time with regard to styling.

Great video, there isn't much recent content for this bike. Love mine 💕 (1998 pre ABS) and still ride it with a grin, the quality is still lovely to look at, eye candy. It now shares the garage with my R1250GSA 😁👍

As usual, perfection production! BUT, you brought back some mighty fine memories - purchased 1200C, not long after they came out, they are cream, not really white, but the total beauty of it was astonishing. Only when I rode it home did I then start to understand how exceptional a machine in total it was. Living on the IOM and only able to use it Sunday afternoons, when I got out, the fun was never to be forgotten, especially taking on the 'boy racers' at the lights, nothing but nothing could accelerate up to 40 faster but after that, off into the far distance they vanished! All history now, old age/injuries etc means Vulcan 650, but hey, it's no slouch!

I owned one of these back in about 2005. It was the cream with blue seats. I always thought it was attractive in a mechanical sort of way. Gleaming chrome and high quality paint made it eye catching. I tried to use it for longer rides, which wasn’t really its forte. It was geared too low for high speed travel. This was during a time when I didn’t keep bikes very long. The bike was 100% reliable. I still see it when the owner who bought it after I traded it brings it by the bike shop. Could use some TLC now. I may try to talk him out of it.

It’s always great to get a LD Gang video in my feed. That bike is hideous but sounds nice. I’ll stick with my R1250GSA and 1976 R100/7 thanks. Great video ❤

It was a bit weird when first released but you are right, those looks grow on you. Could see myself on one now but they are hard to find, especially here in Sweden. Looked super on video, whoever cleaned that bike did a great job. Good choice for this video!

Thanks for the video. I have a 1998 R1200c (non ABS) and 2013 R1200r twin cam both with very low mileage. They are great bikes to own, the 1200c at 26 years old runs like a modern bike (fuel injected) and simple to maintain compared to my previous airheads. They are marmite for looks and I didn’t like it when they came out. However, when I was offered mine 2 years ago with only 6k miles from new I couldn’t resist. I love the look of it now and it attracts much attention. The power can be greatly improved by fitting 1100s cams and injection system but I will keep mine standard.
@LemonDrizzleGang2 ай бұрын
That is interesting but I also would leave it standard as I think the engine spits this bike perfectly fitting hotter cams would change the loping grunty nature of it

Just a few days ago I watched a video done by a Beemer shop in Utah, USA (Salt Lake City I think?). They used 1200 cams. I don't know; maybe the 1100 cams will work too? Either way, an enticing hot rod project!

@@jeffkeni the R1100s fit and add top end but TBH I think it would ruin the feel of this bike it’s lovely as a cruiser

@@LemonDrizzleGang I hear what you are saying. I haven't ridden one. Yet. The 1200C and CL have recently captured my interest. This is surprising after I have loathed them since their debut. I have owned an Oilhead (2001 1100R) and a Headhead (2005 GS). I did a power to weight calculation of the 1200C and found it to be on par with the 1600 Vulcan Nomad I own currently. I think I could be happy with a C. I think its character would suit me fine. Maybe a horsepower increase isn't so enticing? LOL

As you say a slightly ‘odd’ bike that has actually improved with age!

More drizzle please. Hated it when it came out, but looks so good now. Saw one for sale 2 yrs ago with the spoked wheels. They were heavily rusted so not BMW's best.

I remember taking one of these out on demo when they were first released. A lovely hot sunny day and a feel good bike round the country lanes but it felt so underpowered. The engine must have been restricted and it completely spoilt the ride.

BMW have a habit of producing the occasional fugly bike - the R1200C, the K1300R, and if Mary Shelley ever invented a bike - the CE02.😆

Hey, Lemon Drizzle Gang, I was out for a ride the other day and called into the Mount Glorious cafe just outside Brisbane and there in the cake stand was LEMON DRIZZLE CAKE! I took a photo and can send it to you if you want.

Haha truth be known I dont really eat cake the name came about because one of the other lads always used to order it at cafes and we used to take the mick out of him and the name stuck. Some great roads round Mt Glorious, I used to own a property on the Gold Coast and spent a fair bit of time in QLD

Didn't sell very well, I wonder why that was? probably because it was so ugly, even 007 couldn't make that bike look cool. It's probably a good buy 2nd hand, if you can put up with it's unique ugliness, as like you said it's definitely a well made quality motorcycle.

BMW quality around late 90's early 2000's was terrible. I had a new R1100S and corrosion was terrible and there was reliability problems.
