@M.Ovidiu Nice Video Ovi !. Here in NZ we use European Band and will shut 2G 900/1800 in 2025 so still couple of years to go. 3G is UMTS 850/900/1800/2100, 4G is LTE 700/1800 and 5G is 3500mhz . Works fine on 2G GSM Standard Cellular network which is adopted in most part of the world .

I watched the video in hope youd probably show a way to modernize those...but actually still no method yet. So the reason why they are only interesting for the looks is that the transmitterbox as far as I know came in different network versions(c and d net) and some are already shut off in germany. But thanks for explaining! (Maybe since the one plug that i guess is for the telephone stuff, looks like the one's still in use,one needs to see if there is a camper transmitter module somewhere out there and it is possible to change that...)

Btw i have to add something, there is a guy here in KZbin who is building an microcobtroller to replace the sim module with a Bluetooth interface! This way you can use the cordtelephone as a speaker/headset etc. Search for Vintage Carphone makes Real Phonecalls, the guy is named UselessPickless

Hi, my carphone works. But I cannot control it from the MID. There is also no display in the MID. But I can make and receive calls on the handset and thru the car speakers and mic (in headliner)

i have this setup in my e38 740il. factory. i last used it in 2017. I bought prepaid sim cards housed in creditcard it came in, and instead of removing sim, you insert whole card. Now, why is the slot in the black tcu? mine also has slot, but i place my sim cards in the slot under the phone in the cradle. what is the slot in tcu for?

ibus is a communication line. You don't apply voltage on that , tel on I think is connected to ground when you use the phone , and tel mute si grounded when you use the phone to do a phone call

As with 99% of these sets, the ejectbox power cable is missing. This needs power for the phone buttons to light up and some extra functions.

I have to correct myself here. Not sure why I missed it, but the power cable of the ejectbox is here and is connected. Otherwise the keypad would not have lit up.

Thank you very much for this video of BMW first phone. I have BMW e39 523i 1996 model in Nigeria, West Africa, which came with the telephone. For 2 years I have tried but could not get it working until I watched your video, after which I located the phone module at the boot and inserted my sim and whaaaaaoooooo ! it is working. Thank you. Hello. Great video. I just purchased a phone out of an e39. I am retrofitting in into my e30's center console. This is for looks only, I'm not trying to activate it. I want to connect it to a 12v power source to light up. Do you happen to know which color wires are illumination and ground in the harness coming from the base unit? In Europe was on that time 900/1800 MHz and if i good know in USA different(1900?- i'm not sure) . Key for solve it is get info about present frequency in USA(maybe some of operator use 800/1800/1900). If module was multi band then it's should be fine to use EU set in USA.

Ovidiu, îți mulțumesc foarte mult pentru videoclipul postat. M-a ajutat foarte mult. Apreciez gestul tău și mai ales faptul ca ești foarte priceput dar mai ales ca poți să ajuți și pe alții. Adevărat este că sim card de obicei funcționează în modulul din portbagaj. Mai am câteva nelămuriri dar cred ca anul viitor voi veni la Constanța să te întreb despre câteva update -uri referitoare la E 38. Încă odată îți mulțumesc și apreciez munca ta și apropos.. Dacă ai nevoie de piese auto bmw orice fel noi sau folosite mă poți contacta.

Hello, if you will buy a new phone the handset you can use it in any other car with the same type of phone, they are not paired together ( they are not made by Apple:))) not yet )

@@MOvidiu I bought another module with the same part numbers as the phone I bought and now it works. In my opinion this is because the phone I bought is not exactly the same model as the one in the car, it is a very slightly different model. I now make my calls with this phone.🙌

Hello! if the car is prewired that means it have only the wires, not the modules! depending on the model in the trunk and center console , use WDS bmw to se wiring diagram and location!

You should insert sim card in main module,which is located behind rear seat on right site, remember to insert the sim card in correct way otherwise will not work.

Va salut cu respect Ovidiu și urmăritorii canalului, vă adresez o întrebare legata de bmw e 38 728i 1996 fără telefon. Am cumpărat absolut tot ce era necesar și complet pentru a monta telefonul pe cotiera mașinii respectiv telefon Motorola, modul Motorola, cablul de alimentare, cablul microfon plus microfon, cablu antena plus antena, cotiera la culoare după care le-am cuplat în mufa telefonului din portbagaj situată în partea stânga. am introdus sim card 💳, funcționează perfect intru în meniu din telefon și din display-ul mașinii, am semnal full și este manevrabil în meniu. Problema este că nu am semnal audio deloc nici măcar un beep deși cred ca este din cauza difuzorului din partea ușii șoferului pe care le-am schimbat acum câțiva ani cu difuzoare Eton deci nu mai este difuzor original Nokia cu dublă priză. A doua problema este că după câteva minute, telefonul se blochează. Telefonul a fost scos complet funcțional de pe un alt e38. Întrebarea mea este unde este greșeala?

@@MOvidiu i have a different unit with phone control unit (gold box) it has 18 pin connector but cant find anything related to wiring for it, it has 2 gray cables, one going into ejector box and one into phone control unit. cable going to ejector box has 6 pins, orange grey whitegrey whiteblue brown and whiteblack. i would like to know which cables for +12v, acc, illumination and ground so phone is atleast working and lit up

on the video there are two plugs in the phone ... one is from the phone plug and the other small goes to the phone .... 3 cables come out of my plug ... gray ... tan and white black .... where do I have them connect ... the next question ... the microphone ... I have the colors white and brown ... and the plug comes out yellow and brown .... and the last two are cut off ... where do I plug them in .... ?? ? in the loudspeaker ... ??? or how ... ??? the phone rings ... and you can talk ... only these 3 cables do not know where to connect ... you can hear the noise in the earpiece ... is it antenna fault. .. ??? must be connected to earth ???
