@899baki I'm a commercial refrigeration guy but I know that for car A/C the most of the times is reciprocating compressors with schwaseplate! Now we have some expectations where we have scroll compressor instead of reciprocating compressor! Also older cars runs on Suva 134a (Yep that's the brand name given by EX R134a newer cars now runs on the newer A2L R1234yf or Opteon YF (from the same company EX DuPont nowadays Chemours).

Air conditioning systems are a lot more complicated than heating systems.
@tomb816
@tomb816 3 ай бұрын
I mean, a heat pump IS an air conditioner, just with the flow direction swapped. So, you need an extra part to make an AC system into a heater. Seems the heater is more complex ;)

@BB-np4ib 3 ай бұрын
@@tomb816 are you joking?
@tomb816
@tomb816 3 ай бұрын
@@BB-np4ib No. A heat pump is pretty much the same design as an AC unit, just w/ a reversing valve. Neither are complicated systems. They're simple heat exchangers using a certain fluid as the transfer medium and a pump to produce flow. They extract heat from one source and transfer it to another. AC from inside to out and a heat pump from outside to in.
@BB-np4ib

@@tomb816 A heat pump is literally mandatory for a AC unit. Why would a heater be more complex?
@tomb816
@tomb816 3 ай бұрын
@@BB-np4ib No. A heat pump has the ability to heat AND cool, but an AC unit does not. I said more complex because without the reversing valve, an AC unit cannot produce heat. Hence, more complex.

I come from a very hot climate and depend on a/c. I learned about a/c compressors in the 50s. This may sound excessive, but every 70,000 miles, I evacuate, flush, and recharge my auto's a/c system and replace the dryer. The last car had 263,000 miles on the original compressor, a Denso.

I think, if changing the oil in the cars engine is a good idea, then, so is changing the oils lubing these moving parts. Most compressors are designed to ever so slightly “leak” to lube. Still, weather I do, or I do not, I’ve seen about the same 8 yr lifespan out of compressors. It is likely that the driver, the roads, and the climate have larger factors to the lifespan. Like, how often 500rpm-5100rpm occurs…and with how much torque.

This principal is a swash plate pump used in hydraulics and many other systems, changing the angle of the plate changes the stroke of each pump if the plate was flat no pumping occurs at all. It gives very precise control and can vary the speed of hydraulically driven components. Car AC systems now use electronically controlled swash plate pumps for their AC use only the right amount of energy to keep cool. Saves on fuel. So AC pump is engaged by an electronic clutch and pump flow electronically controlled by using a swash plate pump. Great way of showing it real stuff.

Think of a cars engine they can go through between 350,000,000 to over 1,000,000,000 rpms in 100k miles, and most cars make it well above 100k miles today. So, going by that the compressor would have either equal to that or about half of that depending on the climate. If you live in Florida the AC would be on all the time so it'd be about equal. But there's another thing to consider. Vehicles that run high rpms normally have have under driven accessory drives and vehicles with low rom engines tend to have over driven accessory drives, so they could have half the revolutions or double!...
