@20pump6 жыл бұрын
Wow. What an experience. You’re bike must have weighted a ton with all that gear especially two spare tires. Did you ever have to change one out there or was it more puncture repairs? What tires did you use? Love the look of the chopped windshield. Have to consider that for my GSA.
@isaacfeliu6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it weighted a lot! Hahaha!!! Getting tires for a GSA in middle of Africa is not something easy... That's why I carried a set of spare tires... Just in case. But i did not need them as I was able to reach Cape Town from Barcelona on the aame tire set. ;)
@20pump6 жыл бұрын
Isaac Feliu That’s great. Better to have them and not need them. Just subscribed. We are thinking of shipping our GSA to Europe summer after next and touring for a couple of months. I know it’s very expensive to rent a bike like that over there. Looking forward to riding the roads of Europe.

@NachoGS11 жыл бұрын
Hola Isaac! Can't wait for the 2nd episode! Take care, mate!
@isaacfeliu11 жыл бұрын

Isaac I admire what you did and I'm planning on doing the same thing in the future. But let me ask you a question. Is the 1200 too heavy to pick up with all your gear on it? I think the 1200 is great but I'm looking at getting a lighter bike. Lifting 600+ lbs could be trouble. Your advice is need and appreciated. Thanks, William
@isaacfeliu9 жыл бұрын
William xxx Hey! First I would like to say thanks for your nice words. Then about the bike.... you sure don't need a 1200 for this kind of trip, but that was just what I had, so I used it. That said, you'll never be alone in Africa (there is people everywhere), so if you can't lift your bike alone, there will be always anyone willing to help. And my tip is: whatever bike you choose, travel as light as you can, and enjoy the ride! ;) ;) ;)

Is that a Spot tracker on the bike? Isn't it supposed to be on your person at all time?
@isaacfeliu7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that's a Spot Tracker. It is supposed to be on your body, but I've decided it will be better to have it mounted on the bike, so I can power connect it wired and not have to worry about batteries. I was using the tracking feature, and that way it eats 3 AAA batteries per week, so on a trip that last for 3 months, that is A LOT of Lithium batteries to carry.... ;)
@kurodingo7 жыл бұрын
Makes sense then. Or you can use rechargeable eneloop batteries, plugged in either to your bike charger or solar. I've had good success with this setup, although on a bicycle hence no place to charge my GPS. www.goalzero.com/p/79/guide-10-plus-solar-kit

+Isaac Feliu what is the model of your GS,I used to have the 2005 1200gs and the 2006 GSA and both had a somewhat lower air intake that made them unsuitable for water crossings of that type. The 990 KTM on the contrary has it's air intake very high and can handle waters almost up to the saddle. Have they moved the air intake higher on these?
@isaacfeliu9 жыл бұрын
+C_R_O_M__________ Mine is 2010 model, but the air intake is at same position than 2006. On the new LC though they have raised it a bit ;) Anyway, the air intake is high enough for most water crossings, and if you need to go deeper, you can always extend the intake with a pipe ;) ;)

hey if you had to choose between the r1200gs advenrure the ducati multistrada and the honda varadero 1000 what bike would you choose ???
@isaacfeliu11 жыл бұрын
They are totally different bikes, designed for different uses. So depending of what do you want to do with them... For sport-like riding on good paved roads: the ducati, no doubt. For travelling duo, easy riding, no offroad at all, and low budget: the varadero (although it is a really old model now...). For on/offroad riding, long distance trips: the gsa. If you ask me, I choose the GSA, but if you do not plan to go offroading... the Ducati is a good choice!!!
@greg7fr11 жыл бұрын
Isaac Feliu that's what i thought.....also the gsa is more fuel efficient than the multistrada....if i could find a downside on the gsa it's the boxer engine but in my opinion it's the best adventure touring bike :p .... greetings form greece!!

@isaacfeliu9 жыл бұрын
yassine6786 Though decision!!! Both are good bikes, but if it was my choice... I think the old GS 1200 (2010 model) is the best for this kind of riding. Powerfull yet way simpler than newer models, and proven to be super reliable. New moldes always have some small fails that can bother you, specially on the middle of african continent. ;) ;) ;) On my trip across africa I was using the stock tubeless rimes! ;) ;)
@yassine67869 жыл бұрын
Isaac Feliu Thx a lot for your feedback! For the wheels, with the tubeless if I damaged it because of a stone for exemple, I will be stuck. it is way maybe the system with inner tubes is better. i do not know yet :-D

yassine6786 Hehe... you go tubeless but bring some spare tubes with you. If something bad happens to rims or tires, just put the tube in. ;) On my trip across africa i went tubeless but damanged the front rim in Kenya, so I put a tube in and continue my trip with no problems! ;) ;)

Madre del amor hermoso! Flipo mil contigo.
