I feel exactly the same way about the Adventure model. Still haven't pulled the plug on a new GS but plan to get the base model. A little scared that my trusty '89 GoldWing will gather dust in the garage though.

Curious. Why set cruise control at 60mph and not be in 6th gear? You wouldn’t be anywhere near bogging the engine, it’d be less buzzy, and you’d be getting better fuel economy.

Great question! I totally understand why you would think that 6th would be a better decision. My dad and I didn’t really talk to each other or agree to running in 5th, and yet that’s the gear we both independently chose to hold at that speed. Although the 1250 motor is very smooth at all RPMS, you’ll find that a lot of modern adv motors have a sweet spot in terms of vibration and overall response that may be higher in the rev range than the highest gear possible to hold. To your point, these things have enough torque to run 6th gear at 30 mph, but it wouldn’t be the best spot for the motor to sit at for extended periods of time. I would argue that the rev range we were holding in 5th might even get better mileage that if we were to shift up. It’s all about how the bike responds and feels.
