I am not sure this is the way to go..maybe in an emergency with plans to replace the cables is OK. The common thought is to not lube these cables as they are Teflon lined and lube invites contamination, degradation and problems later on. This comes from BWW factory techs with decades of experience. The throttle gears do get worn and can be filed and greased to extend service life, or just replaced as the gears are available.

thanks for the comment your are correct that you should replace the cables if worn. Without checking the manual and I could be wrong on the older airheads you can lube the cables. I know the newer bikes that they are coated. But my plan was to replace at a later date.

i have a 1992 R100GS. This morning it was surging on the highway. On the way home from work it got stuck in the open position with full RPMs. Had to kill it and park on the side of a road away from home. I wonder if you could suggest some sort of lo-fi version of this. I don't have much mechanical experience. I don't have that lubing device. Your video doesnt show the connections too clearly. I'm sure its my cable but I don't know how to diagnose the issue. Is there a way to pull on the cables and look to see if they are working properly? Thanks!

Thanks for watching. If I had to guess I would say that you cable is broken inside the casing and is hanging up. You’ll need to replace the cable.
