Nice, informative video. I was taught to open, or at least loosen, the fill bolt first. If you drain the oil but can't refill it due to frozen fill bolt you have a double problem since you can't ride it to a shop.

Yes your correct! I’ve ran into that before but in that case you can just fill thru the wheel speed sensor hole without issue. I should of called that out. It’s rare but does happen.

@@TheBMWGuyExcept for models like my 2007LT which have no speed sensor hole. I have gotten in the habit of always removing the fill plug from any engine, transmission or final drive before removing the drain plug.

Tom Cutter, who rebuilt my FD when it failed, suggests using 220 ml fill volume as I recall. Apparently, BMW has issued service bulletins with specific fill amounts and definitely “fill to spill” is not recommended for FDs. They need more room for expansion when hot.

Any particular reason you used 75/140 sae gear oil. All the manuals require 75/90. Brand new to me 2002 R1150RT. Diggin’ your videos-Blake
