You asked for it - the Schaaf delivers! Here's the 'unguided' BMW S 1000 XR ride for you :) Just a tad quicker than the previous XR video. BTW don't get confused by that flashing gearchange indicator. It was set to a wrong RPM level. Probably a leftover from the break-in-period.

Amazing video as always! Just to let you know, I see you were riding in Dynamic, where the torque is castrated in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear. You get the full torque only in Dynamic Pro. May I ask how would you compare this to the R1250 RS? You said this is the best sport tourer so far, so I guess you prefer this :)
@Schaaf4 жыл бұрын
can you confirm this? Because this bike didn't have Dynamic Pro. I know that Dynamic Pro lets you adjust everything individually but I never heard of the normal Dynamic mode being restricted in power? That would be quite stupid because this bike was a machine they hand out to journalists ;) The RS is quite a bit less agile. But of course it has tons more power down low. A bike with the XRs handling plus suspension and the boxer engine's grunt would be nice ;)
@DGBomber4 жыл бұрын
@@Schaaf Yes, you can see it for yourself by going to BMW Motorrad's website and download the User Manual for the new XR. I'ts at page 150 in the English version. Here's the link: www.bmw-motorrad.com/en/service/manuals/rider-manual.html I think it's quite stupid too because I tested ride it and found a lack of torque compared to my S1000R, so I did some research and found this. Quote from the Manual: "Torque and throttle response - In the RAIN riding mode: Gentle throttle response, reduced torque in low gears. - In the ROAD and DYNAMIC riding modes: Optimum throttle response, reduced torque in low gears. - In the DYNAMIC PRO riding mode: Optimum throttle response, maximum torque.

What an amazing video as usual! What do you think of that bike compared to a 1250 GS? What about behavior of the conventional suspension compared to telelever? Does the electronic compensate ? I bought a canam x3 xrs side by side in July of 2020 it was a good idea at the time I thought, spent thousands on accessories but I really don't have a place to ride it near by, other than a couple quick rides around the block I took it on a stone road next to railroad tracks put on about 40 miles and sliced a tire it cost $190 for a new one that was the last time I drove it! Never got it muddy ! I wish I would have known about the BMW XR 1000 at the time , I paid 30k for the canam plus a few thousand in extras. A locl BMW dealer has a 2021 xr 1000 with sport package ice grey , price reduced to $20655. I going to trade the canam hopefully I don't get beat up to bad on the trade. It's never been in the mud and got less than 100 miles !! At least I won't have to search for places to ride it and spend 8 hours cleaning it at the end of the day!!

Please use the Sport display next time. Besides speed and RPM, it gives lean angles (left/right and max left/right), braking, acceleration, DTC intervention, etc. Also, if you pair the Bluetooth to your phone and the BMW Connected app, it records all of this for you to replay your ride telemetry on the map. It's very cool.

Well you kind of already wrote it but it is really visible that I lacks torque down low in the lower RPMs. Once you reach the rev-range where you got all the power you suddenly have to cut the power again because it becomes way too fast. I think a different engine tuning would make it even better. Would you say the XR is much better than the R1250RS? I the video you said It could be "the one" bike for you, but it was before you rode the new XR.. :)
@Schaaf4 жыл бұрын
it's only better in the handling and suspension department. But as you were saying the XR lacks low-rev grunt. Which makes riding in the mountains a bit less enjoyable for sure. But then the RS is not exactly agile. So I guess in the end there's a reason why you see so many Gses in the Alps ;)

Why is it repeated all the time that it lacks torque? In Dynamic Pro, it is possible to remove the "muzzle" in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears, which in Road and Dynamic modes reduces torque to maintain traction. Everyone tests the bike, but nobody uses the Dynamic Pro mode and will complain what a bad bike it is. Please read the owner's manual it is a motorcycle with advanced electronics.
