BMW S1000R Review and thoughts!

I testrode the '23 S1000R M-Sport with everything except the carbon pack and carbon wheels, and I was actually disappointed by it. It had finished the drive-in period, so it didn't have any limitations. The engine is VERY viby, I've never experienced such high-frequency vibrations in the handlebars, pegs and even the tank before. I rode it for an hour, and it took 2 hours before my hands stopped feeling weird. This has never been an issue on any other bike. And the seating position is very agressive for a naked, it's almost as agressive as the S1000RR. The '22 MT-09SP that I owned and the '22 MT-10 that I currently own is FAR more comfortable, and I don't feel like I have less control over those bikes than the S1000R. The CP4 engine is a completely different beast, the BMW just felt a bit "flat", whereas the CP4 feels like it wants to play ALL the time. CP4 also sounds far better - the only thing that rivals it in sound is the Aprilia 1100 V4 engine. The M-Sport seat (with the M package) is horribly uncomfortable. The build quality, plastics quality and paint quality seems kind of cheap up close (at least in the M-Sport white color). The dash, electronic suspension and brakes were great though. But the '22-'23 MT-10 is a much better bike overall, especially comfort-wise and engine wise (which is the most important factor). Put some sintered pads on the MT-10 and the brakes are equal.

Yeah I have to agree with everything you’ve said. I am trying the m1000r in the next week or two so will see if that’s much better. I wouldn’t part with my MT for the BMW - but I can see the market for it.

This is the premium version of this bike. The standard version doesn’t have cruise control/heated grips/keyless entry/quick shifter. I had a base 24 S1000r, and I will be upgrading to a premium version as soon as possible.

It’s just an optional extra which is the comfort pack! But would say.. they are must haves!

It all depends on what you want from the bike. I had an MV yes it was sexy...yes it was unique...but boy every time I rode the bike felt it going to fall apart on me! I was even afraid of shutting it down at the red light in the hope of not starting again. I don't garage my bike and ride them every single day! MV/Aprilia/Ducati are not everyday bikes no matter what they say! BMW is built to be ridden every day without issues or corks! I just bought an M1000r and I can tell you it feels like it was built like a tank and it does everything so well! Oh need to replace the goofy mirrors!

I bought the same bike s1000r love that thing i like the riding position being more lean forward than other naked a very well rounded bike

Used to have the 2015 s1000r and loved it. Was so happy with it. Can't stand the new headlight they fitted though. How do you compared to your MT10, possibly my next bike. Cheers!

I have seen some fan renditions which kind of replicate the s1000rr headlights and it transforms the look, not sure why they haven’t done it. I personally love the MT and prefer it’s character to that of the s1000. Straight fours just don’t light my fire. Cross plane fours do! Torque is also great… try an MT… I think you’ll love it. Also streetfighter, Tuono and superdukes all give you great torque feeling.

I am about to buy this. Tbh watching this video I feel the pain of keeping this bike at 2k RPM. It does not even wake up at this range...

No it doesn’t, if you want that lower grunt you’ll probably be better off with a different engine configuration. Once it’s awake it’s pretty nippy though!

Haha… for me… it lacks the character. I’m going with v4 or crossplane… but maybe that’s because I’m just bored of the norm. It’s a brilliant bike either way.

everyome is quite flippant about changing the exhaust on a new S1000R as if it is just another upgrade when in fact de catting the bike virtually requires a tune which then destroys the warranty ! Am I right? And no going back as far as being able to hide it from BMW it IS logged in the data files for BMW to KNOW....now if you are rich who cares but if you actually worry a bit about reliability on an insanely expensive machine to ever repari anything major? Just chucking a beautiful 3 year warranty for a few more horsepower but mainly for the SOUND? Really? Is the sound THAT valuable to chuck your warranty? That peace of mind? I was even thinking of paying for the extended bringing it up to SEVEN YEAR warranty for a mere $1000 US (or less $and less years of course) But then no tune no exhaust.....such a delimna and one I could get over easily with a Japanese bike like the MT-10 SP which quotes for identical money as a well equipped S1000R the one with heated grips and cruise and Marzochi semi active AND better brakes etc just more goodies than the SP for sure and a better warranty AND lighter weight....as much fun though? Then there is the M package which makes me swoon wanting to own ...I just LOVE the idea of forged wheels

Yes you would be right, each person to their own. Not everyone will be buying one with a warranty one day! so if it was me id personally get a different exhaust on and map it as i think all modern bikes suffer due to emissions laws but common sense would tell you not to do that if it voids a warranty! You can buy forged wheels for an MT10! 😏 or carbon wheels on the bmw... its an option. thanks for commenting and watching 😊
