Question(My 2007 x3): My transfer case was changed to a used one and it removed the ABS/Brake/4x4 lights from being on. Now I hear a scratching sound from the back that was NEVER present before. Do you have a professional opinion what could be happening or what could be checked?

Sir, I appreciate your detail video and explaination of this problem. I have an 09 E70 X-drive 4.8i that I'm experiencing a code of 5F3A and 5F39. I erased and restarted ,checked again and under TCM got a code 5462 and 5463. My plan is to removed and replace worn gears and change transfer fluid. Hope I'm on the right track.

Sir i am having the same issue and dealer is charminho me $7000 to chance the Transfer case. HOS did that Gi for you?

This repair done the trick for me. I'm a happy camper again. This video was on point. There's nothing worse than having a group of dash lights come on all at once. Thanks .

Thanks man for the very informative video. I've got 2007 BMW X5 E70 3.0i after driving for 10 to 15 minutes it starts to vibrate between gear change, no lights are on but diagnosis I've got 54c6 code. I changed the transfer case fluid unfortunately I still have the same issue. Could you advise me what to do next please? Thank you.

Hi 05 E83, I’m getting 5F3A, 5462 & 54C4. I did a new servo about 10k miles ago as well as the BMW t case fluid replacement. When I did the servo motor, I moved the resistor from old motor to new motor and never did any software calibration or anything. Did I mess up and cause internal damage? Why am I now getting these codes and when I use foxwell scanner to calibrate servo/clutches it says “failed” help!

I wouldn't use a Foxwell scanner for one. Did you do damage? 10k Mike's ago did the codes came up? If not, then you didn't do wrong. These systems are finiky so have to tackle codes from scratch. www.autodiagnosticsandpublishing.com

I replace the actuator and code 5f3a is Still Coming up I, saying clutch stuck open, so the transfer case has bad clutch’s

Hello, I have an 06 bmw x3 with the code 54C4 popping up I was reading other comments and I came to conclusion that it may be the resistor? When I installed a new transfer case motor I used the old the one that was already installed, I also didn’t install the resistor until I put the the motor back on the car could that have messed something up? Rather then installing the resistor on the motor first then assembling it back in place let me know thanks

My 2006 E83 shudders under low gears so I disconnected the transfer case box. The shudder went away. Then I replaced the transfer case with a used one removed from 2008 E83. Right after replacement, the vehicle feels like binding and bucking when in reverse or drive. Feels like the emergency brake is engaged. I used a scanner to reset the transfer case, but issue still there. Then I rebuilt the original transfer case with new chain and friction disks, issue still there. What could cause this problem? The vehicle ran fine before replacing the transfer case due to shudder issue. Any advice?

Look into the program resistor attached to the transfer case.

Thankyou for the very informational video. I have a 2008 bmw 335xi . I had a trifecta of lights so I changed my transfer case actuator motor. No luck . Then I bought a used transfercase and changed that it came with its original actuator motor . I tried both of them and now I have a constant awd malfunction light and an intermittent trifecta. What’s puzzling me is I got rip of the trifecta but now the codes I have are 54C8 (classification resistor) which I have 3 different resistor from all three actuators I have and none of them will do the trick. Is there a way to find the right classification resistor. When scanning the car the classification resistance measure in the wiring harness is a value class G, the classification resistance value on the control unit is a value G, and the screening resistance determined on basis of calculation model is a value H. Do you think you know the issue. And where should I go can I get it coded to get it fixed ? Are all the values supposed to be the same . How much should it cost?

Yes, get another xfer case. The resistor had to be exact.

So I'm thinking I need to put back the old resistor/sensor on the transfer case servo motor. I changed both a month ago. Now I'm getting these codes.

Hello! I have a BMW f30 320xd, some time ago I received an error on board (Driving Stabilisation), the car now only enters comfort mode and I have traction only on the rear wheels, after some investigations I found the following codes: 48097D (Transmission box transfer - open clutch position, rear drive only) and 440101 end of transmission reached, I mention that the error appeared in the morning immediately after starting the engine. The car has no symptoms related to the transfer case, (ATC35L) it does not sputter or make strange noises. The tires are identical and match, the electrical fuses were checked, the new actuator was coded with ISTA, it worked without problems for 3 days, I tried a recalibration with ISTA but it no longer allows it, I have the old actuator open and it seems that the new models they no longer have gears, they are in an electromagnetic field, I also changed the oil, it was a little dark, brown The car is from 11.2013 and has 292000km, the first owner changed the entire transmission in 2016 under warranty in Germany I thought maybe the clutch in the VTG was worn out. If I change the clutch in the box, can the actuator be recalibrated, do they have to be replaced with a new one? I initially thought it was the actuator and replaced it, but the error reappeared after 3 days. Sincerely, Octavian!

Too many questions. I think your transfer case is the only issue.

Hello, I had all three light on I took it to bmw for my x3 E83 they replace steering angle sensor then now they recommend new Transfer Case at 4000+ which I declined, the only light on now is the 4x4 do u feel that it could be the Transfer Case Actuator Gear ??? Also they will not replace just the Gear, please let me know you opinion .Thank You !

My opinion, unless you're under warranty, stay away from dealerships. Remember, they're sellers of cars, not the manufacturer. Also, they're licensed as such, sellers, not repair shops. Find yourself a good independent repair shop, not easy to find, and stay with them. Try and get a BMW Indy shop, they usually specialize in that brand. Good luck.

BMW X6M has following faults: 54C4, 6428, 5F39, 601D, 601E, S0104. Mileage is 167,000 miles

Hello just changed servomotor and resistor on my x3 but did no coding i only get 54c4 calibration defective instead of a bunch of others... what is reasonable amount to pay for coding

Honestly, I think you may have the wrong resistor. Are U the new owner? Who had the car before? Did you check the old resistor and used the same one? Your new resistor also might be wrong value from factory, as in a defect. On those beemers it is not normally necessary to recode, but this changes from year to year. I'd say take it to someone who has like an AUTEL scanned and recode if possible. autodiagnosticsandpublishing.com

Yes new owner car has 109k changed servo motor and resistor because at first I was getting 5462 5463 54c8 (classification resistor) so i thought i also needed resistor.... after changing servo and resistor im left with 54c4 i will purchase an amazon scanner hopefully capable of calibrating transfer case if it doesn’t work i will have to get transfer case looked at

Excellent video, explanations, analysis, thank you. My car is an X5 E70 '09 3.0si, I have this code - 55C3: 55C3 VGSG four-wheel-drive system activated. No DXC setpoint default. What does this mean, is it a follow on issue due to this other code - 54c6 oil wear ?. I have replaced the plastic gear, am about to do the oil. Is it prudent to flush the transfer case of all the oil with some other thinner fluid, or just drain as much as possible and then fill?

Watch for the coding resistor. Then do adaptive memory reset.

Well... Guys I will share with you with my E53 problem have error code 5463... I have removed the adjuster motor and the gear is ok, there are no faults on it... but I have notice that the worm shaft is rotating with big difficulty like old rusty pliers.... I do not know how that motor is build inside... maybe brushes ended, bearings, commutator, brush holder... maybe you guys have noticed something like this... By the way oil, chain, bearings and sealers where replaced year ago...
